I plugged in my new 3TB WD MY Book ext HDD, and when the "New Hardware Detected" popup showed. I mistakenly clicked on check for driver updates for this device every time computer is started. I would like to get that New Hardware Detected screen back and start over. I uninstalled the drivers, but all it it did was look for and found the drivers, when I started the computer again. I tried going back to a restore point before setting up the ext Hdd, still can't get the New Hardware Detected popup to display..

    Thanks

Hi gary7. First off does the Western Digital hard drive show up properly when you click Start< My Computer?

Does the hard drive show up as being properly detected?

By default, when the Hardware Update Wizard is started, it asks whether to search Windows Update for the device driver, and offers the following choices:

    • Yes, this time only
    • Yes, now and every time I connect a device
    • No, not this time

Choosing the second choice, Yes, now and every time I connect a device, causes the Hardware Update Wizard to stop offering the preceding three prompts, but these prompts can be restored through System Properties (in Control Panel). To restore the three prompts, in System Properties, click the Hardware tab, click the Windows Update button, and choose Ask me to search Windows Update every time I connect a new device.
