    What do I need to do to get windows to allow all 32gb of ram to be usable?? Here is some background info:

    Motherboard Name: GA-970A-D3 (3.0)
    BIOS Ver: FD
    Video Card: ASUS HD7770
    CPU Model: AMD FX-8350
    Operation System: Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP: 1
    Size: 4 x 8 gb (32 gb) Memory Part No.: BLS8F3D1609DS1S00 (Crucial 8gb Sport 1600 CL9 @ 1.5 volt)
    Power Supply: 1000 Watts

    Motherboard bios reports 32 gb mem and Windows reports 32 gb installed (16 usable)

    Things I have tried:
    Complete new install of above windows os;
    msconfig/boot/advanced/maximum memory checked and unchecked;
    Slowed ram from 1600 to 1333 and back again;
    conducted repair install of windows;
    removed and replaced ram modules (to include swapping positions);
    updated bios (updated to an older one that dealt with memory issue, then updated to most recent one) FD in case you wanted to know;
    Ran memtest on all 4 mem modules passed;

    Thanx for your time.

    According to Gigabyte's QVL list for your system, Crucial isn't on it.

    Crucial's Memory Selector only lists this for your board:

    I'd start by using memory of the official QVL list.

    Thanx, this is the first time I have ever had this problem. Guess I'll have to be more careful in the future. Thanx for the comebacks.

    If BIOS is showing full 32 GB RAM then I don't think its a hardware mismatch problem. Compatibility list only comes into play if either BIOS is not detecting the RAM or there is some problem after loading the OS.

    Well, this doesn't apply, Windows 7 reports 16GB. 32-bit Win7 would only see 3.x GB

    Yea, that's baloney!

    I would rather suspect that the OP has Windows 7 Home Premium installed, and not Win7 Ultimate as claimed. Win7 HP has a max RAM capacity of 16GB.

    It could be but why is it reporting 32 GB installed ? It should not be able to see it or is it that it can see it but only use 16 GB ? :confused:

    That's what Windows 7 Home Premium will tell you, since it only supports 16 GB max.

    Hm. It seems something is sharing the RAM then.

    My first guess would be the display card. Do you have any other card lying around which you can swap for your existing card ?
