    Hi Evan!

I ran Malwarebytes & it was clean. I was almost hoping it would've found something that we could blame this mess on, but that just didn't happen.

I'm very curious about your info about making 8 work like 7.

As far as using the Metro options...one of the first things I did when I used 8 before the HDD died was to install "Start 8" from Stardock. It replaces the god-awful charms; the annoying rectangles & restores the Start button. I didn't use an MS Account, either.
How else does 8 differ from 7, & will the differences solve the Privacy-related issues that bother me?

Let me know if I should start another thread, or have you posted this gold mine info already.

I also found a registry fix on another forum that eliminated the awful picture of Seattle & went right to the log-in page...do you know what that fix is, as I'm not sure where I found it.

    Thanks Much!

    Nuts4Mutts :)

Windows 8 does have some extra under the hood security features, such as an integrated Smart Screen Filter for helping to protect your machine from running potentially dangerous programs. Windows 8 also includes improved copy dialog boxes as well as an improved Task Manager. The performance is the same on both Windows 8 and Windows 7.

The main difference between Windows 7/8 is the Metro touch interface included in Windows 8. Once you get rid of all the Metro applications, disable all the hot corners and boot to the desktop by default then the behavior of Windows 8 works the same exact way as Windows 7 assuming you also install a Start Menu replacement program.

Plus any privacy concerns regarding the Microsoft Account and using the Metro apps would be solved since you would login using a local account and you would uninstall the Metro apps from your system since they are not useful.

I'd rather have you start a new thread that way I can specifically target and address each of your needs specifically so that you are satisfied with the outcome.

Its most likely a registry hack to disable the lock screen in Windows 8 which is one of the things that I do when setting up Windows 8 for clients.

    Hi Evan!

I'm as ready as I'll ever be. It'll be nice to be able to enjoy streaming media again, that's for sure; & I'll be able to enjoy my games again, too! I'll mark this thread as solved & I'll post in the Windows 8 forum & call it, "How to customize Windows 8 ". I think that leaves it open enough & it shouldn't get anyone's feathers ruffled like my last attempt!!! ;)

Since you have an idea what my concerns are regarding the License Agreement I'll do my best to avoid the 'sensitive' issues. I'll just follow your instructions & avoid any other comments; that should keep me out of trouble...I hope! If I have a question that might end up sparking a debate, would you mind if I sent you a PM? Let me know if you disagree.

I think my Vista senses something's going on, as it had a BSOD last night! It recovered nicely, though. No problems with it today.

A last "Thank You" for all the time, energy, knowledge & extreme patience you shared with me on this thread...I really appreciate it!

Off to post in Windows 8!!!

    Thanks Much!

You can send me a PM that's fine. But it helps other members if we keep the discussion in the main thread instead of solving issues via PM.

I will see you in your next thread. ;)
