    Hi!

I know that when a PC has the OS installed at the factory MS doesn't allow us to transfer it to a different PC. That said, is that true for Office, too?

I have Vista HP SP-2, 32 bit & it has "MS Office Home and Student 2007" installed & I have Windows 8, 64 bit on another laptop, but I read that newer versions of Windows don't come with Office, (I haven't opened the lid yet so I don't know for sure, as it was a gift & I didn't want to ask the very generous giver the details & seem ungrateful).

As a rule, I don't use Office as my PC is strictly for personal use. It would be nice to be able to use it from my new laptop if the occasion should arise, though.

What's the regulation on this situation?

    Thanks much!

    Nuts4Mutts :)

Hi Nuts4Mutts. You can't transfer your installation of Microsoft Office from one computer to another. You will need to uninstall it on the Vista laptop and install it on the Windows 8 laptop assuming you have the product key and installation disks for Office 2007.

You can always buy another copy of Office 2007 or 2010 for a cheaper price and install it on your Windows 8 laptop, or you can install Open Office which is free if you want to go down that route.

    Hi!

I kinda figured it couldn't be used on another PC, but I had to ask someone who knew for sure. I heard that Open Office is good, so since I never used MS Office anyway I'll keep that in mind if the need arises. I'm not ready to use 8 anyway as I still like Vista HP. I just like to plan ahead. ;)

    Thanks
