Hubby has a new laptop running windows 8. He prefers the desktop look rather then the tiles. Many of the downloads he likes come with a desktop shortcut.
However, the weather channel does not. Nor does it show the temperature down in the taskbar right hand corner, as it does in my windows 7 laptop. When I go to the apps and find it there and then right click it there is no option to open file location. Can anyone please help me with this? Basically we want the temperature to run in the task bar at all times. With the ability to click on that to see the weather.
    Thank you:)

Open the weather channel program then right click on the icon in the taskbar then click on Pin to the taskbar.

That did not work. There wasn't a icon to pin. When it opens in windows 8 it is a full screen no icon no address bar.

lj50, If you open the Weather Tile and Right click with your mouse > In the bar at the bottom of your screen > click the PIN to START button - only works if you have the Metro layout.
It doesn't show that if you have Start8 or Classic Shell in use.
I tried on my Notebook several times and could not get the Pin To Start to show. Neil.

    Cyn714, I found this doing a Google: Windows8.1 Tips

To make a shutdown tile (or taskbar icon):
right click on the desktop background
    choose new then shortcut
    type: shutdown /s /t 0
    name the shortcut
    choose a new icon

THEN right click on the new shortcut and copy it to the start screen and/or pin it to the taskbar.

replace the letter "s" with an "r" for rebooting

I haven't tried it - so don't know how/if it works. Your risk. Neil.
