I try to create a new folder on the desktop, in an already existing folder, and it won't let me. It won't even let me view the little pull out menu beside the word "new." It gives me the illegal operation message when i try. Please help me if you can

    Hi
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hey man. Thanx for the reply. The exact message I get is the one that says "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down "
Here's more of my system specs:
333 Mhz Intel Celeron, 96 MB Ram, 40x CD-Rom, 24 gigs storage, all around crappy stuff.
Also dude, how can i check if I got a bug, and, if I do, what can i do about it??
Contact me on AIM, if you have it, my name is LudicGuitarist. Or you can email me at Jewdiddy@msn.com. Or just reply here, but I'm more likely to get it the other ways.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Dont use the private message thing --post here so others can
see whats going on and attempt to help.
Including your spec'c is a good idea but we need to know the version of windows --owwww 98 da i forgot to look .
    thr error message
" " "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" "" "

    Hey man.
Aight, the program it says will be shut down is Windows Explorer, and then Windows Explorere shuts down, but it doesn't solve the problem anyway. All I have for AV is the Dr. Norton thing that came with the computer, but I might go get one. Which is a good one to get? (for the right amount of money). Also, you mentioned the online scan, what's the site for that?

    Thanx

P.S. I'm gonna go to sleep, so I guess I'll see ya tomorrow.
    Happy New Year,
    danny

    1. Go online to suggested place, and check for viruses. If you are virus free, then:
    2. You may download, and install very good FREE antivirus program AVG from here:
    http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_index.htm?session=89133d28578e504cb101bc60a1882615
    3. Post EXACT error you are getting. Click on "Details" button, and you'll see something like this:
"Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 0137:bff798fb" (it maybe be anything instead of Kernel)

    Hello again
heres another idea I found while searching for something else
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>clip<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Cannot Create a New Folder on the Desktop in the "Save As" Dialog Box
The information in this article applies to:
    Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q306357
    SYMPTOMS
If you attempt to create a new folder on the desktop in the Save As dialog box by clicking Create New Folder, a new folder might not be created (instead, nothing may happen). This issue occurs only when you are saving to the desktop. Creating a new folder anywhere else works correctly.
    WORKAROUND
To create a new folder on the desktop in the Save As dialog box, right-click an empty space in the Windows Explorer window, point to New, and then click Folder.
    MORE INFORMATION
This problem is only known to occur computers that use the Intel 815EM/830M chip set. The problem does not occur if the display driver is set to Standard VGA.
    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<snip>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Even though the save method is differant haveing the that intel chiset could be the problem.
    Try thr housecall thing
<<Also, you mentioned the online scan, what's the site for that?<<
I posted that link just ckick on it ...
Ps do as suggested with the error message
    Good luck Happy 2003

That kind of error usually has two buttons: "Close ", and "Details "
