Operating dual OS - Win7 and Ubuntu 12.04.
2/12 Downloaded MS updates on. Computer shut down.
2/13 Opened in Ubuntu to clear email folder. Shut down
2/13 Opened computer in Win 7.

Preparing to Configure screen runs for two minutes; computer shuts down and restarts. Tried several times. Safe Mode does same thing. Safe Mode with Networking - same thing.

Tried Windows Recovery partition. Message box with "system recovery is not recognized ". Checked on partition and recovery partition does exist. Ubuntu working just fine. I can see all the files on my Windows partition.

Am not concerned about losing Ubuntu just best method for restoring/reinstalling Windows 7. I have my product key.

    1) I have a set of 5 recovery disks. Not sure how to use them. Do I set bios to boot from disk drive and install them one by one? Will using these disks reset to factory default?

    2) Do I download a Win7 ISO image and Toshiba drivers and go that route for a clean install?

    3) Any other suggestions?

Hi DoubleHUtah, when you start your comp, do you get a window with a choice of OS's to click on?
If you don't choose Windows 7 within 5 seconds - it automatically starts Ubuntu?
I'm asking because I had Zorin installed on same HD as Vista OS and the only way I could fix a similar event, was to Run Zorin from the disc and use the uninstall provided.
This removed Zorin and Vista seemed to work OK again. Neil.

Yes, I have the choice of OS's. But in each instance, I am choosing the Windows option within the time frame. If I don't choose, you're correct, auto boot into Unbuntu. When I select windows I get the "Preparing to configure screen" and restart after two minutes.

I did not consider using Precise Pangolin (12.04) disk to uninstall the distro. Will give that a shot and see what happens. I'll still have my iPad for research and communication. Thanks.

Use the Windows DVD to run Windows repair and repair the boot loader. This will overwrite the current GRUB boot loader and enable Windows to boot. You will next have to use the ubuntu cd to reinstall GRUB, which will enable booting both operating systems.

When all is well, boot to windows and create a repair cd in case need to repair again.

Set Windows Updates to NOT download and install automatically. Set it to auto check for updates but let you choose what you want to install.

I do not have a Windows DVD. And, after taking two days to research all the software i am currently using for compatibility with Ubuntu and the few that might require WINE, I think I am going to go back to Unbuntu full time.

The work requirements that I had for Windows no longer apply. At this point in time, Ubuntu should fill my computer needs just as well. Thanks for all your assistance. I will mark this thread as resolved.
