When I click on links to videos I get a message that tells me that I have to install Adobe Flash player in order to play this content.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of Adobe Flash Player 3 times and I'm still unable to open videos and still getting the same message.

I've rebooted after the installations of Flash Player and I'm still getting the same message.

I would appreciate some help with this problem.

    Thanks you,

    bellisimo

I get that message occasionally, too. It's most likely a problem at their end, but to be double sure you might run a scan with something like Malwarebytes to see if there's something strange going on in your system.

    Thank you BOBBO,

I ran a complete scan with newly updated Malwarebytes before I posted this thread. I've since uninstalled Flash Player twice and reinstalled it twice and I still get the same message.

Funny thing is, I can open the files on my MacBook Pro, which makes me think it must be a problem with my Windows 7 machine.

    Thanks again,

    bellisimo

You didn't mention which browser you are using.

Maybe you need to run the Flash Player uninstaller, and then try to reinstall the program again.

Another choice is to install Secunia PSI 2.0 (3.0 has some bugs), and let it do a scan of your system. Flash Player can sometimes leave behind zombie files during an update process, and Secunia will remove them for you. This process may take some time however.

Patch My PC is another choice for updating Flash Player, and many other programs, as well.

Have you got Adobe Flash Player Version 12.0.0.4 installed? Neil.

    Hi James,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post.

I've downloaded and installed both the Flash Player Uninstaller and Secunia PSI 2.

I reinstalled Flash Player and Secunia PSI 2.0 updated all my programs with the exception of Photoshop CS5.1, which I suspect may be and end-of-life situation. All my other programs are up-to-date.

It's a mystery. I'm still getting the error message. I've tried everything I can think of. I've even run a system file check and it found no corrupted files.

Thanks again. I appreciate your input.

    Hi retiredlearner,

Thanks for your input. I had been using version 11 and, since you replied to my post, I uninstalled it and installed version 12.0.0.4.

Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem. It's a mystery.

    Thanks again,

    bellisimo

I guess if it were me, I would do some selective registry cleaning, but I would have thought that the uninstaller tool would have taken care of that. Revo uninstaller can do selective cleaning.

I've had your issue before, with Firefox in XP, but I can't remember how I fixed it. Maybe you could try disabling the browser extension / addon, and then re-enabling it.

Have you tried doing a system restore?

    Hi James,

I've uninstalled Flash Player with Revo Uninstaller a couple of times and even gotten rid of some junk with autoruns, but I haven't done a system restore. Thank you. It's a good idea that I hadn't considered. I'll try it and let you know how it goes.

I appreciate your help with this.

    Hi again James,

System restore didn't work. I ran it 3 times with no success. However, I've discovered that it is only one video from the UK that gives me the Flash Player error message, so I'm thinking it may be a problem with the video I've been trying to open. It's strange though, because I can open the file on my MacBook.

So, for now, I'm going to mark this thread closed. Thank you for your time and suggestions. I've decided not to worry about this anymore unless I run into more similar problems.

    Thanks again,

    bellisimo

My only other suggestion would be to try a different browser and see if the file will play there.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    Thanks James,

That's a good idea. I'll install firefox and see if it works.

    Hi again James,

Firefox didn't do it so I'm just going to forget about it. I think it's the video that I was trying to open, so I'm not going to spend any more time on this.

Thanks for the suggestion though. I appreciate it.

    Hi fellas,

    Me again.

Just wanted to let you know how I finally solved this mysterious problem. I disabled ActiveX filtering. That's all it took. Flash Player is now working properly.

Thanks again for all your help. It was your suggestions that got me thinking outside of the box.

Thanks for getting back to us. Maybe your experience will help someone else, as well as making your browser more secure.

One thing puzzles me though, Active X has no bearing with Firefox. I can't understand why the file wound not play in the Mozilla browser - regardless of Active X settings.

    Hi James,

After trying Firefox, I went back to Internet Explorer. The reason I pursued a solution after all is that I discovered that a lot videos wouldn't open for me since my last post.

I haven't tried to view the video on Firefox yet. Thanks for mentioning it. I'll try it now.

Okay, I just tried it with Firefox and it works. Don't ask me why:)

    Thanks again,

    bellisimo
