No, if the printer cable came from Canon then it should be the correct cable if it is not defective. We will get to that if this don't work.

OK about the EPP 1.9. But if it had a combo of ECP/EPP 1.9 then that is what we want. If it does not have the combo then what you picked is OK.

Now this evening don't let computer come up in full mode, F8 and choose Safe mode then go to device mng and remove all LPT ports even if it says EPP 1.9. And especially if it has more than 1 lpt port of any type. Then reboot and it will say installing new printer port.

Now tell me what kind of port the scanner attaches to? Do you have another LPT port or is the scanner a Serial or USB device?

Forget the Java and internet thing for now since they will work.

Do the above reboot clean and try to print

No combo ECP/EPP. The scanner has it's own Lpt port. I will give it a shot tonight & get back to you as soon as I find out. Wish me luck!!;)

    Hmmmmm

See your other post I answered your questions on RegCleaner.

Well now..... After we try this and if it don't work then we may need to switch ports and try printer on other port.

But we will see what happens now1

    Not working

OK Here's what I did. Ran the DOS change in Safe mode. Then rebooted. No detection message! I then ran scandisk (computer found a lot of errors & fixed them), diskcleanup, spybot, regclean, adaware. Unplugged printer rebooted, shut down, plugged in printer to other plug in & rebooted. Computer still didn't detect anything. Tried printing & I get 4% complete now. I checked devices & no LPT port listed!:(

    Yippeeeeee

Eureka !:D We got the printer to work. We discovered that my printer was a USB type. In Device Manager there was a port error with a question mark and unknown device listed which we deleted. Also, under device manager we discovered a printer port listed with a red "X" on it that we deleted in the Universal Serial Bus Controller. Once that was complete, we checked the printer settings through the startup - settings -printers - then highlighted the printer with a check mark over it (default printer). I then clicked on file - properties and clicked on the details tab. I clicked on the spool settings button and we changed the print format from Raw to EMF. Next we changed cables & did the reboot routine and let the computer install the new hardware it found. We then went into the printer section again and clicked on file - properties - general tab and clicked on the print test page about half way down the page and...... Voila!!!!! We're in business. The scanner isn't going yet, but I need a windows 98 c/d to reinstall the new driver and then we think the problem is licked. A HUGE thank you to Mike for your persistence and hard work. ;) I am soooo impressed with this site and would recommend it to anyone.
