On a web page with several blue hypertext links, I am unable to get the links to open to the new page. This is a new probelm within the last few days - prior to that I could click on the link and go to new page - now nothing happens. What is the problem? How do I solve it ?

As an example the links in Brett's reply cannot be activated - and this is another page where links do not work: http://www.webenglishteacher.com/sachar.html

Until recently links worked fine - not sure what has caused this change

Doh! I should have known better :D

FYI you can always right-click on a link, select properties and then copy/paste the URL to a new broswer window.

bmg--Are you saying that the problem clicking hyperlinks occurs only with certain websites but you can access others OK by clicking on hyperlinks? I gather you are trying to open the hyperlink by right clicking and clicking Open in New Window, correct? If so, what happens when you just left click on the link?
Haved you cleaned out your cache (Temp and Temporary Internet Files) recently?
Are you running IE6? Did you install the SP1?

No - it now happens on all pages - worked fine until a few days ago - now I cannot open any links. I have cleaned cache - I usually do the left click approach as before and have not done any new installations

bmg--Ah. "Always" is easier to solve than "sometimes" (I hope).
First try the suggestion made by brett in his first link. If you cannot open then here is the easiest part.
    1) "Hyperlinks don't work
First, try setting IE5 as your default browser. Go to IE tools/internet options/programs and turn on the check box for IE to check if it is the default browser. Shut down and restart IE. When it asks to be default browser, say yes. "

    2) "Go to my computer, view/folder options/file types (or control panel, folder options depending on your operating system.

Scroll down to the URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocols, click edit twice and make sure the following is in the application used to perform action box:

    "C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome

    The same applies for URL:Gopher

DDE should be set to: "%1 ",,-1,0,,,,
    Application should say: IExplore
DDE application not running should be blank
    Topic should be: WWW_OpenURL "

I that does not work, then try this
    http://discussions.virtualdr.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=125201
But if you cannot open that link, the most important part is to suggest Repair Internet Explorer. Start|Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove|scroll to Microsoft Internet Explorer|highlight|click Add/Remove. The next window should offer several choices. One should be Repair Internet Explorer. Check the box, click OK. Wait for the Repair to finish.
EDIT--And if still no joy, and you are running IE6 without SP1, install SP1.
    Good luck!!

I think its a problem with Kiosk mode
    you never replied
    what version of ie?
    what version of wndows?
If its ie 6 and you updated recently to eighter of the sevice pack 1
their have been two - im not clear on exactly what changed what
and the changes didnt happen immediately on my system but
    somehow they did .

Go tool's -internet options - advanced and uncheck reuse windows for launching windows---mmmm that may also be in oe
I dont know. and make sure ie is set to check if its the default browser.
If this is the case the repair utility wont help.
Ps hope this dosnt get in the way brett,Welshjim and Bmoore1129

bmg you now you can right slick copy shortcut and paste into the address --till the problem is fixed.
