Each time I install a new multimedia program the Jpeg & Gif files change to that association.

For example, the gif & jpg files were associated with Netscape with the N/S icon. Then I installed 602 Software and the files changed to that icon. Then I installed Quicktime and all the jpgs and gifs have the Quicktime icon.

How do I change it back to N/S file association? Yes, the files open OK, no problem, but I hardly ever use Quicktime.

Ok, I took drastic action and uninstalled Quicktime to go back to the default file association.

    How to change File Associations

Ok, here's the way I do it.

Double click on My Computer, Double Click on the correct Drive you want, double click on the folder you want to open, then, left click once (just to highlight it) on the type of file you want to associate.

Now, hold down the Shift Key, and right-click the file. Near the top of the window that opens you'll see "Open With" Click this and another window will open with a list of programs to choose from.

Select the correct software, click on the "Always Use this Program to Open this type of File" and click the "OK" tab.

Now, whenever you open that type of file, it will always use the software you just selected.

    Good luck.

    Griz.

    Simplify it

On the folder the file is in, or any folder, click options, then click view, this is where you can make hiden files not hidden and so forth. There is an option that will ask you to hide file extensions. uncheck this option. you then can just rename any file with a new extention.

    Open Netscape:
    Preferences | Advanced | System
Enable the File Types you wish Netscape to open.

    Insert a tick beside:
"Alert me if other applications change these settings. "
