I'm looking for a way to instantly Pause my computer monitor for a few seconds so I can quickly review the ever changing info (ie with a HotKey) and then have it Resume live input, much like you do with a DVR playback.

Does anybody know if this can be done?

Used to do it all the time with the Pause/Break key. Don't know if it works in Win 7 or 8. Have know idea of what OS you are running.

You need to fill out your System Specs. Go to User CP near the top left and go from there.

    MrBill,

Yes, I'll enter my system specs shortly.

I'm running XP-Pro+SP3 but the Pause key doesn't seem to do anything.

MrBill, There may be a Function key to use with Pause/Break.

Pause/Break key will stop the screen when loading Windows from Startup, but may need 2 key operation to enable further action. Just my thoughts at this stage, I haven't experimented with my XP SP3 comp yet. Neil.

Pause/Break used to be reliable in text mode OS's (DOS,C/PM etc), a GUI is a different matter entirely.

@OP, perhaps if you tell us what software you're trying to pause we could help further?

Try this. Hit the print screen button then open up MS Paint and paste it there. Use the PASTE button near the top left.

    wildfire,

Thanks, I did ask in the Tradestation forum but the only reply was that it could possibly be done with special coding.

    MrBill,

Thanks but I need something that is a very fast turnaround (ie 10-15seconds).

I'm not familiar with the software but you could ask for this feature to be implemented or at the very least what "special coding" would be required?

I just did one and it took me 4 seconds. Had an IE window open and also Paint. Hit Print Screen, minimize the IE window and Paint was sitting in the background of IE already opened up and hit the past button.

Try it and see how fast it is.

Have you tried pressing the Esc button to stop a page from loading?

EDIT: Found a great little stand-alone tool that takes multiple screenshots every time you press the PrtScn key, or it can be programed to take screenshots by left-clicking on its tray icon. The program automatically saves all images to the folder of your choosing. It may just be the thing you're looking for. I've used it in Windows 7.

Here's some free software (third choice down) that can record screen images in motion...

    ScreenHunter 6.0 Free

Our online newspaper has teamed up with a company called Press+ to prevent anyone from reading the online paper - unless you enable third-party cookies in your browser, and then you wind up with no less than two dozen or so tracking cookies following your every move. (I have third-party cookies disabled)

Thinking about this thread, I used the Esc button to stop Press+ in its tracks, and now I can read the online paper without seeing the Press+ popup since printed text downloads faster than graphics anyway. I'm using Firefox by the way, so I don't know if Esc works in conjunction with Internet Explorer or not.

Maybe using Esc can help in your situation, robls99.

James, Try it. I know that you have IE on your PC as they all come with it. Let us know what happens.

Bill, it (Esc) works to stop download traffic in Internet Explorer too. At least it stopped that dreaded popup message from appearing again and again.

Do you have the popup blocker turned on in IE? Tools/Pop-Up Blocker.

Yes, the popup blocker is turned on in IE 11, and it is set to medium.

I have an ad blocker installed in Firefox, but the Press+ popup (I think it is a java script image) shows anyway unless I hit Esc in time.

Thanks, regarding the use of Esc, my Tradestation software requires IE and Esc has no effect.
