A few days ago I downloaded Microsoft Office Word 2007 to my new laptop which has Microsoft windows 8.1. Somehow I just can't get it installed. I can easily see it in my downloaded folder, etc, but just don't know how to install it.

Years ago, I used this program on my old laptop and it worked very well, and I understand that I am entitled to have it installed on at least one other PC, and that I would have to uninstall the Office program that came with my new laptop... I had done this before I downloaded the Word 2007.

Your help in this matter would be much appreciated.

Look for an installer icon similar to the one shown below. Just click on it, and Office will walk you through the installation process.

Here is a guide to help you navigate the install prompts.

Thanks James, but this don't seem to be able to help as one would have to have a disk for this method. I don't have a disk, but I have the product key which I already used to successfully download the program. And there is no icon with the download, just 2 lines with letters and numbers. When I click on them just more unnecessary folders would be made which I would delete.

Where did you download Office 2007 from, and what edition is it? Is it possible you downloaded an Office 2007 service pack instead?

I don't have the disk either (downloaded the file from Digital River), but I do have the program installer, and it is 502mb in size.

Well if you speaking of my first download it was in June 2009... Its the Home and student edition. That was on my old laptop pc. My second recent download was from a Microsoft site to this present new laptop. And as I already said the download went very well... just don't know how to do the installation.

Hi Beach Boy, If you have the Download in Download Folder > Right click on it and Click on Run as Administrator.
I have no problem running W8.1 and using this method. You may need to check with MS Office to see if there is a compatibility Pack for 2007.
I installed MS Office 2007 Professional on this laptop running W8.1 without any hassles. Neil.

When I right clicked on any of the two downloads all that comes up is:

    Open with
    Share with
    Send to
    Cut
    Copy
    Create shortcut
    Delete
    Rename
    Properties

I tried to copy and paste both of them here but it won't take on this forum.

Do you have the installer from 2009? If so, you can use it to install Office with.

Sounds like you have a botched download to me. I would re-download the file, or use the 2009 installer instead (if you have it). Can you provide a link to where you downloaded the most recent file from?

EDIT: I found a link that you can download from. You'll need to enter your product key after making your selection.

I think I might agree with you James. Everytime I RIGHT click on ANY download in my Download Folder I get:
    Open
    Run as Administrator
    Troubleshoot compatibility
    Pin to Start
Then all the rest that Beach Boy has.

Beach Boy, are you running any different Start Program?
    Start8 or Classic Shell or?

If you have your original Download on your old Laptop - Send it to USB thumb drive and you can then install into your new Laptop via the USB. Neil.

What are the names of the download files? Do they end in .ISO? If so, you'd need to burn them to cd or extract the files within the ISO file.

Thanks Steve, forgot that the download might be .ISO. Always assume that the download is .exe. Dah! Neil.

Well, Well, I am so thankful to you folks. You are really trying hard to help me.

Thing is, when I first bought the program for my old pc, I paid for it by credit card and it was sent to me online, etc.

Someone in the Microsoft Community said if its downloaded in that way, there is no product key... and someone else said that you can use Belarc Advisor and get the product key, and that is what I did to get the product key I used...

All I can say right now is that I will spend some time after church today and try my best to respond to all of your postings... again thanks very much..

Thanks James, but this is the exact same link I used to download from and can't get the download to install. A while ago I tried to re-download but somehow it did not work. What is an Installer?

Someone mentioned to use a flash drive. Will be glad if that can work... recently bought a 32GB flash drive to download many files from my old pc. The company I bought my new laptop from transferred many files to my new pc but every time I try to access them, a note comes up saying it can't be done. The only folder/file they transferred that I can access is the Picture file. Every time I try to install the Word 2007 file they transferred, a note comes up saying it can't be done. And I think the transfers they did was by a flash drive. Still feel confident that by your help I will get the transfer to work.

Well, I have the whole installed program which works very well. I don't think I have the original download. The only Start program I have is the one which came with my laptop.

For what its worth here is the info for the downloaded Word 2007 file. There is no dot followed by numbers/letters after any of them:

    Name Size
    ------- ------
    V8SupercarsXboxOneRacing 8.938 KB

    X16-69408

Size of the second download is 318.658KB.
There are two more columns for Date modified and Type, but I could not add these here..

If your comp has W8.1 installed - no problems with conflicts. (Start8 or Classic Shell).
Have you tried to run the old Data installed from your previous comp in Compatibility Mode? Neil.

That's another name for a program. Everything needed to install Office 2007 Ultimate on my machine is located in that installer icon. The only way you can install Office on your machine is to download the program in .exe (executable - same thing as an installer) format, or as an ISO file as Steve mentioned. If it is in an ISO format, then you will have to mount the image first, and I believe Windows 8 supplies its own image mounter - if I'm not mistaken.

It is an exe (installer) for MS Office 2007 Home & Student.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I downloaded the exe from the above link, and it now sitting on my desktop waiting for me to install it. All I would need now is the product key. The file is 311 mb in size, so it took a while to download.
