Adobe reader won't install using windows 7 64 bit. I have tried some of the fixes suggested on the internet without success. There is a suggestion that there is too much junk on the computer that needs cleaning including remaining items from an uninstall of AVG.
    Thanks

Are you having trouble downloading or installing Adobe Reader?

If its downloading the setup file then have you tried a different web browser to download the file?

Trouble is with installing. On Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and FireFox at about 68% get same "Error:General installation error ". I tied a different download location on IE and on both save/run and run got "Error #485559 Can't access the disk "

Might I suggest PDF-XChange Viewer instead of Adobe? (unless you have the paid version)

Adobe has become rather bloated in my opinion.

Do you have a previous version of Adobe Reader installed? If you do then remove any old versions from your machine and download the latest version from this link, Adobe Reader 11.0.04.

Can you take a screenshot of the exact error message that you get?

Can't get the screenshot to paste into this message. The error message is: "Unable to write to temporary directory:C:\Users\Ralph\AppData\Local\Temp\14238 error = 3 => The system cannot find the path specified. "
I downloaded PDF Exchange Viewer but at installation got: "Windows cannot complete the extraction. The destination file could not be created "

I suggest Foxit Reader with its light footprint against Adobe which as already mentioned is a very bloated installation.

    kind regards,

Type in the search box %temp% then delete everything in that temp folder.

Ran CCleaner although I am not sure it was the updated version as when I downloaded it and ran it I got : "Error! can't initialize plug-ins directory. Please try again later ".

Re running FoxitReader: "Setup was unable to create the directory "C:\Users\Ralph\AppData\local\Temp\is-AFESL.tmp "

Re Temp folder items---could not delete items: "You need permission to perform this action "

    Check this out...

Try using Windows own built-in Disk Cleanup tool.

Hi, It's beginning to sound like you need a trip to Malware Forum for Broni to have a look.
Could you also take the time to fill in your System details as this helps us to help you if we know more about your comp. When you finish adding your details, don't forget to scroll to the bottom of the page and SAVE before you close out. Neil.

I agree with this as I think there is a lot more wrong than what has come to life so far. Good to have a checkup with Broni and then come back to this sub-forum if he advises you are clear of Malware for futher help.

    kind regards

Yes Adobe Reader is installed but I agree there is likely more that needs to be done. e.g. "sounds like you need a trip to Malware Forum for Broni to have a look ". Please give me the next step.
    Thanks,
    Ralph
