For the past few days, I've been getting the "503 Service Unavailable" message here and a few other sites when clicking on a thread or a url. It doesn't happen for all threads or urls but enough to be a problem.

I'm running W7 HP and dual booting W8.1Pro. Problem occurs with W7 only which leads me to believe it's an IE10 problem on the W7 partition.

    Any ideas?

The 503 Service Unavailable error is a server-side error, meaning the problem is usually with the web site's server. It's possible that your computer is having some kind of problem that's causing the 503 error, but it's not likely.

I agree but just curious why only W7 is the problem.

Now that you mention it, W7 is running IE10 and W8 is running IE11. I dumped IE11 from W7 because it made a mess of my on-line banking site.

Try downloading FF and see if it still happens. Free download and you can remove it after you prove you point if you want to.

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ When the pop up comes up, just run it and don't save it.

503 Service Unavailable is an error generated by the Apache Web server. The cause of the problem is on the server itself.

However, not all servers use the same error pages & error messages. There is a 503 error that is related to DNS failure. The usual fix for this error is to reboot your router.

The DNS issue can also be caused by 3rd party security software, such as ad-blocking stuff or safe browsing stuff.

Reboot your router & see if the problem still exists.

OK. Did a DNS flush/restore, rebooted router and system and haven't received a 503 message for hours. Looks like all is again OK.

Thanks, Tony, Bill and Spyware Doctor.
