Looking for a quick answer. I still have my Administrator Right in safe mode, but not in normal mode. Some way my Administrator's rights have been changed to limited in normal operating mode. How do I get my rights back to full Administrator rights in normal mode?

    Thanks

Login in safe mode > control panel > users > verify you have an admin account.

Tony, I do have Administrator Account when I log into safe mode. I did have Admin rights in normal mode, but something has change and I can't use restore because it is not working. So I need a work around for this problem.

    Thanks

    Is this any help:ask-leo.com/how_do_i_get_administrative_privileges_on_windows_xp.html

In Windows XP Pro, that Administrator account is not listed on the login screen, unless it's the only account on the machine. You can still log into it, though ... by rebooting into 'Safe Mode'. Press F8 when Windows begins to boot, and you'll be given a list of boot options, one of which is 'Safe Mode'. Select that, and the 'Administrator' account will appear on the login screen.

From here it's easy. Once you've signed in as 'Administrator':

    Right-click on My Computer

    Click on Manage

    Expand Local Users and Groups

    Click on Groups

    Double click on Administrators

    Click on Add

Enter the account name on this machine that you want to assign administrative privileges to.

    OK your way back out.

Now reboot your machine normally, and the account you selected should now have administrative access.

This may only refer to XP Pro - check and see. Neil.

I try the Safe Mode approach to solving my problem, but I did not find Expand Local Users and Groups. I have XP Home OS. What am I missing about this solution???

    Thanks

Local Users & Groups does not exist in Comp Mgmt in XP Home, only XP Pro.
You can enable Local Users & Groups in XP Home though.

    1. Start > Run.... Type mmc.exe and press Enter.

    2. File > Add/Remove Snap-in... Add button.

    3. Scroll down until you find Local Users and Groups and click the Add button.

    4. In the dialog box that opens, choose Another computer and enter 127.0.0.1 (the local loopback address) and click Finish. Do NOT select Local computer.

    5. Click the Close button then OK button to return to the newly created MMC console.

    6. Click File > Save to save the new console. By default it will be saved to the Administrative Tools folder.

    7. Close the MMC window.

Go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Users & Groups.
