    Hi James,

Absolutely no problems whatsoever with the install and adding AV and anti-spyware programs so he could get online.
Me neither — that's why I had problems. Also, I looked on the original XPSP1 disk that M$ sent me when the first one had a pinhole in it. I tilted it so I could read the holograph wording and it says, "This program will search your system to confirm your eligibility for this upgrade edition." It also says "Upgrade" on the disk.

So, that's why I had to put in the Win98 disk first before it would install. Now, all is well: He's happy and I'm relieved his computer is out of here!

So, it sounds like you were dealing with an XP upgrade disk instead of the full version.

Yep! I didn't notice that until I looked at the holograph. M$ was supposed to send me the full install disk.

I did read the label!!! Unfortunately it was my slip-streamed SP1 & 2 disk which only has what I wrote on it! It was the original disk that had the info on it.

Anyway, thank you for the Hiren's link, and Merry Christmas to you, too! :D
