For some reason Win Patrol, over the past year or so, has been leaving two uninstallers in the Add Remove Programs list. I keep the program up to date by installing the new version over the old one (as is done with many programs). I thought this was an isolated incident with XP, but it is happening with Windows 7 too. I have tried right-clicking on the black watchdog in the system tray to exit the program before installing the update, but it has not helped any.

I sent a support request to Bill P., and I will post back with his response as soon it comes in.

Have any of you Win Patrol users experienced the same thing?

I had your exact same issue - the fix for me was to uninstall WinPatrol with IOBituninstaller, then download and install WinPatrol again which solved my issue.

    kind regards,

I have 5 entries for WinPatrol in W7 and am certainly not losing any sleep over it :)

    Thanks.

Did that solve your problem once and for all, or do you have to use the uninstaller each time to remove the old version of Win Patrol?

    Five entries??

Doesn't that strike you as odd? Like in something is wrong?

Strange and unexpected - yes, worrying - no as the latest version is the one running.

I suspect it is down to poor writing of the software installer and will be interested in BillP's response - if any.

I don't get paranoid over little things like that :)

So far so good James, but only did the exercise this week.

I certainly wouldn't tolerate more than one entry, used to have two, but after my first post have one only.

    kind regards,

Makes one wonder if the software is up to snuff if Bill can't get something as simple as an uninstaller to do it's intended job. I mean, the program is very small to begin with.

He (Bill) did respond to me a few years back about Win Patrol, so hopefully he'll respond this time. The web site says to contact support again if no response is received within 48 hours.

    WinPatrol Removal Program
This is a single program WinPatrolRemove.exe which will remove all files and registry entries created by installing WinPatrol. After running this file it will be removed automatically the next time you reboot.

Thanks, Steve. I didn't know Win Patrol had such a tool.

Still waiting on Bill P. to respond.

    Response from Bill P...

    Hi James,

Thank you for your support and patience. The issue you describe isn’t normal but it happens enough that I have created a tool within WinPatrol to clean up any old entries.
If you click on the Options tab, in the lower right you’ll see a button that says "Repair and Reset Tools…â€
One of the check boxes will be in front of "Remove previous WinPatrol entries in the Control Panel Uninstall appletâ€. Just check this box and click Apply and only the last entry should be listed.

    Thanks again,
    Bill Pytlovany

Thanks James for the update - there was a new WinPatrol update yesterday, I installed it over the top of the existing version with no issue at all.

    kind regards,

    Same here.

At least we know how to remove any old Win Patrol entries from Add Remove Programs without accidentally removing WP itself.

    You're welcome, Pete.

It's good to see Bill P. is still answering mail. I wasn't sure if I would get a response or not.
