First off, I can get along without Adobe Air but Time Warner Cable requires Adobe Air to be able to use voice mail feature.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and I can't remember the last time I had any problems with my computer. Every time I try to install Adobe Air I get this error:

    http://salfantasia.us/AdobeAir.gif

This is the installation log file that was created the last time I tried, just a few minutes ago:

[2013-11-19:09:39:03] Runtime Installer begin with version 3.9.0.1210 on Windows XP x86
    [2013-11-19:09:39:03] Commandline is:

[2013-11-19:09:39:40] Runtime Installer end with exit code 7

If anyone has experienced the same type of problem and was able to correct it I would appreciate some feedback. Like I said this is not keeping me from my every-day activities.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me

Thanks for the info but that's the first thing I did after I Googled the problem. I also tried installing Adobe Air in 'Safe Mode' and that didn't help either.

    Thanks for the input.

Hold down the Shift key > rt click the installer executable > select Run as Administrator. Enter the Administrator password and proceed with the installation.

Administrative access is always required for installation of Adobe AIR.

That error message is generated as a result of the Windows Installer Service not starting properly. Go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services and verify the Windows Installer Service is set to manual & is started & running. Then retry the Air installation.

    If no joy, see this:

    Thanks for all the input.

Windows Installer is running and it's set to MANUAL.

I ran the Windows Installer Fix.

Since I am the only user I am also the Administrator but when I used the 'Run as..' I removed the check from the 'Protect my computer...

I even tried turning off 'real time protection' in my Microsoft Security Essentials.

    Still no joy.

The articles I had already read.

Thanks again. Maybe someone else may have done something different.

    The MSI installer is failing.
Download the cleanup utility that heikwith linked to above.
    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility-Download-18442.html
Then go to Start > (All)Programs > Windows Installer Clean Up Utility & run it.
Locate any previous versions of Air in the list and remove them.
Go to C:\Docs & Settings\<username>\Local Settings\temp & remove all folders & files in that directory.
Try to install the newest version of Air again.
    Post the results.

    Followed your instructions.

When I ran the Clean Up utility Adobe Air wasn't listed, I went thru the entire list. The first two listed items didn't have any descriptions just (13.2.42.0) & (9.3.2).

Then I went to C:\Docs & Settings\<username>\Local Settings\temp and emptied the folder. Because there were 4,429 folders and files I created a Restore Point in case I have some problems.

Re-booted the computer and tried to install Adobe Air. I got the same result recieved this message:

    http://salfantasia.us/AdobeAir.gif

    Thanks for the help.

Try deleting /temp again, then all previous adobe air folders & files, then try the install again. For example, there may be air stuff in:
    /program files/adobe
    program files/common files/adobe
    docs & settings/<username>/application data/adobe
    docs & settings/<username>/local settings/application data/adobe
    docs & settings/all users/application data/adobe

I followed your instructions. I also found and deleted Adobe Air folders in these three locations:

    docs & settings/<username>/application data/adobe

    docs & settings/<username>/local settings/application data/adobe

    docs & settings/all users/application data/adobe

I rebooted and attempted to install Adobe Air and got the same results.

This is the Install log file from the install:

Open a command prompt and type the command:
    msiexec -?

What's the version number? The latest for XP is version 4.5.
Get the latest here, choose this in the list:
    WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe

    That's the latest version.
Chances are the temp dir security settings are corrupted or incorrect, possibly due to a previous MS Update, some security software or other software.
Follow the instructions on this page for XP (Grant Full Control permissions to the SYSTEM account). Then try installing air again.

OK. I did all the things that were indicated, allowed Full Control permissions to the System and also selected 'Replace permission on all child objects with entries shown here that applies to child objects'. I didn't find the 'Use simple file sharing' in the folder options and I have to assume that it's because I am using Windows XP Home edition.

I tried to install again but got same error.

Like I said at the beginning of this thread I can live without Adobe Air so I think that all options have been exhausted.

Since I am the only user on this computer are the changes I made to the permissions OK to stay or must I return them back to what they were. Once you answer this question I suggest that the thread may be closed.

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

It's OK to retain those permissions.

Since you cannot use Time Warner Voice Zone Connect without Adobe Air, uninstall VZC.

Then login at Time Warner and download the latest VZC, save to disk, close browser & try installing it again. It is supposed to automatically detect that Air is not installed and then auto install the latest version of Air. Make sure that Flash is the latest version.

Time Warner Voice Zone Connect has never been installed on my computer.

When I sign in to my Time Warner 'MyServices' account and click on the 'My Home Phone' I get the message 'We're sorry, we were not able to retrieve your voicemails at this time. Please try again later.'

When I click on the 'VoiceZone Connect' tab it indicates 'Adobe Flash is required to download VoiceZone Connect' which I have installed already because I am an avid player of the 'Farm Town' App on 'Facebook' and that requires the latest Adobe Flash. Then it shows the 'Download' button.

When I click on 'Download' a new window comes up with the following:

    http://salfantasia.us/VoiceZone.gif

The Time Warner site does not permit me to download any files. It runs the installation of Adobe Air first and then, if this is successful, it runs the installation program for VoiceZone Connect.

This is the FAQ displayed on the link you provided:

    Question:

Where can I get the latest version of VoiceZone™ Connect?

    Answer:

You can download VoiceZone™ Connect application from the VoiceZone™ Portal within MyServices. Just log in to MyServices with your TWC ID and choose VoiceZone from the Quick Link dropdown.

In the Settings tab, you will find information on VoiceZone Connect as well as instructions on how to download the application.

Apparently when Time Warner says 'Download' it refers to Download and 'Install', not Download and 'Save'.

Thanks for all the help. Since I will be getting a new Windows 7 computer by Christmas I'll try with it.

Understood. It installs within the Flash application at their site. Try to install it & see what happens. The worst that can happen is that the Air install will fail.
