I am posting here because I have searched the web for 2 days and not found an answer. My 82 yr old father uses Windows Live Mail. According to him he cant get it to stop "double spacing ". Does anyone here know how to get it back to single spacing?? I have no idea what hes done that caused it to all of a sudden start doing this?
To make things even more difficult, he lives in NY and I live in FL so that means that what ever solution there is, Im going to have to talk him through the fix. Please dear GOD let this be easy!!!

    Thanks in advance!
    :)

When sends you an email does it look doubled spaced?

    1. You should consider installing WLM on your computer and or
    2. Look at something like LogMeIn which will allow you to connect directly to his pc

The information on the page James Martin linked to merely means that now instead of pressing the Enter key twice to get it double space (the old way dating back to electric typewriters), he will now have to press the Shift key while he presses the Enter key to get it to single space.

Are you referring to line spacing or space between the characters?

Out of curiosity, I installed WLM on my XP setup, and I am not experiencing any double spacing issues of any kind so far. I have asked a question about line spacing at Microsoft Community forums. Hopefully, I'll get an answer for you.

EDIT: Can you post a sample of the double spacing issue?

I'm referring to line spacing. Unfortunately I can not provide an example. My dad is the one having the issue and he lives in a different state.
With regard to the shift/enter suggestion. Does this means he has to do this every time he wants to type up an email? I wish I knew what he did to cause it to double space. I have WLM on my Win7 laptop and I cant get it TO double space. It automatically single spaces for me. There has to be a way to UNDO whatever it was he did. Thanks for all your suggestions!

Chawni12, still waiting for a response from Microsoft Community Forums, but about the only fix I can think of at the moment is to have your father go to Tools > Options > Advanced tab and click on Restore Defaults.

This may, or may not work, but it is worth a try. Be aware, though, that any customizations he has made to Live Mail will have to be reset.

I had that same problem and I didn't know how it got that way. I got so frustrated trying to find the answer I ended up deleting the account and then recreating it.

Still waiting on a decent response from MCF. The lone answer I got was a misunderstanding of the question I asked.

Yes, it means he has to use the Shift/Enter every time to get a single space.

I checked my WLM and it single spaces like yours. I can find no way to change that default behavior.

It sounds to me like lj50's idea of creating a new account in WLM and if that gives the single space default back, importing everything into it from the old account may be the answer. I realize that may not be an option for your father depending on his computer skills.

You just deleted the account, or did you do a complete reinstall of Live Mail?

By deleting the account, I presume this did not affect your existing mail and folder tree?

I tried the same thing, and I could not get Live Mail to double space at all.

Out of curiosity, I tried Shift / Enter in MS Word, and it did double space, but it also changed the default action - meaning I had to turn off double spacing in Word options.

Just deleted the account. You do lose saved emails. Before I deleted the account. I had created a folder Saved Mail. I didn't have many saved emails so I emailed them to myself at another email address after the account was recreated in WLM. I emailed them back to myself in WLM.

In Outlook Express, their was a Store folder for all emails and such, and I see that WLM has a similar folder at C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail.

In Outlook Express (OE), I moved the storage folder to D drive, and even after a reinstall of XP, all I had to do was to open OE and redirect the storage folder to D drive, and viola, their were my messages and folder tree - intact. I would assume one could get the same results with WLM?

EDIT: I created a new store folder (in D drive > Mail > Live Mail), and went into WLM and changed the store folder location accordingly. After exiting the program, WLM copied all information over to the new folder. I then opened WLM to confirm the new store location, and then I deleted my Hotmail account. All messages and folders then disappeared from view. I recreated my Hotmail account in WLM, and all of a sudden the program synced up with my storage folder on D drive, and all of my messages were in view - as well as my folder tree too.

I hope this experiment comes in handy for anyone reading this.
