I am looking for a print server software to be installed on Windows 7. The print server should allow an iPhone or iPad to print email directly to any printer on the same WiFi network.

The current ways include using printers with AirPrint® function, or using a Mac installed with Printopia virtual print server. There was a software "FingerPrint" from Collobos.com but they have changed it to Presto, which is charged monthly.

I want to know if any other solutions out there.

Did you check the website of the manufacturer of the printer. Some have software that you download and install on the iPhone and iPad. I found one for An HP Photosmart AIO C7180. It worked on the iPad but the customer didn't want it installed on the iPhone until a later time.

If the app is to be installed on iPad, it must be available from Apple App Store (no jailbreaking). The apps from HP can print photos and saved documents but not email. Update me if there is one.

I want a generic print server. It minimises services. There are many printers installed and it's not practical to replace them all just because they can't print documents/emails from iOS devices.

The responsibility to ensure inter-operability in a multi-vendor integrated network environment is difficult to "take" up if the print server / apps fit only their own brand.

It's an HP ePrint mobile App. I talked to Apple about this it is not considered jailbreaking but he did not know if there was a generic app available. But maybe I don't enough know about it. I am sorry I wasted your time.

No no no. Lj50. I appreciate your kind attempt to help. We just can't bingo every time. Sometime we can be inspired by something seemingly irrelevant. I'm sorry for giving you a wrong impression. You are definitely not wasting my time.

HP ePrint is an app, like many others, cannot use printers on LAN/wireless LAN. It needs Internet and thus slow: sending your things (not everything) to a cloud and from there to your ePrint enabled printer. For a home based ADSL connection, it's painfully slow for the upload. At the end of the day, I will ask: the printer is in front of me, why do I need to print through Internet and let some unknown organization keep my doc (e.g. NSA) forever?
ePrint is only a FAX substitute of my choice.

Yeah. Quite a number of work around but none could replace AirPrint. Google Cloud Print is specific to Gmail, or Google docs? Nevertheless it needs Internet and Cloud before coming down to the printer in front of you. It uses IPP (Internet Printing Protocol?). AirPrint is quite direct, using Bonjour (mDNS) even the IP address changes all the time due to DHCP allocation.

Collobos.com has given me a license for FingerPrint and shall available on Presto. I am using Printopia for Mac (waiting for the Server version). It seems that they are the best available options so far. I'll stop here. Thanks guys.

I like Start Page, too, but sometimes I have to revert to Google itself.
