Resolved cmos checksum error

    I agree that the CMOS battery was/is the most likely culprit. but the problem never happened again and I am reluctant to mess with someone else's computer unless it's dead. My hands are not as steady and reliable as they once were, so if the problem surfaces again I'll take it to the shop.

    If it ain't broke, don't fix it, or don't keep fixing it 'til it's broke. I listed the thread as solved, although technically I guess it isn't, but time will tell.
