Seemingly after installing a series of Windows Updates, my permissions have become quite messed up. I open an Excel file in Documents but now am not allowed to save, edit or do anything with it. I try to open photos in Windows Photo Viewer and it tells me I do not have adequate permissions. I have read what I can on the web and adjusted all permissions for all users to do anything but it remains unresolved. Some step by step advice would really be appreciated.

To this point, other than changing permissions, I have tried system restore, swept with antivirus and for spyware - nothing. Here are so "no access" messages I get when I try to do things.

The last one is my user account status, administrator, yet I get the access denied messages.

I am unable to send emails in my Thunderbird client, however, if I run the client as an adminstrator (right click, run as adminstrator), I can send mail.

    Solved

Thanks SpywareDr. I found the process slightly different and slightly more complex than in the article. Screens never seem to mirror what the article says exactly. Nonetheless I worked through the process of refreshing my system. I am really glad I kept a file of all my third party installation files and did careful backups. I am now back up and running with the faults that drove me to this pretty well cured.

I use MozBackup to store all my Firefox and Thunderbird content and settings. What would have taken me hours just re-establishing all my emails, accounts and web sites was accomplished at the click or two of a button. I highly recommend MozBackup for anyone using those programmes.

You're welcome. Good to hear it's back up and running okay.

Oh, and thanks for the tip on MozBackup. :)

Does MozBackup save and restore "Site Preferences" in Firefox?

I have yet to find a utility that will do that.
