Hi, I lost all my High-priority updates that were installed after 10-13-13

Yesterday I has to do a system restore, I went back to 10-27-13.

I looked today and saw I lost all those High-priority updates on 10-18-13 and 10-19-13

I believe there were around 10 each on these two days. I have my computer set to download automatically.

I did check for High-priority updates using the Windows Update checking for High-priority updates

There were none. I looked in add & remove programs, nothing there either after 10-13-13

Once High-priority updates that are installed, then are missing for what ever reason, should checking for High-priority updates express find them again.

how can I get those High-priority updates installed again. XP FF
I went to ms site, but I have no idea what updates are missing, just the dates they were installed I mentioned above.

    Thanks

gary, have you tried using Belarc Advisor to double-check for any lost updates? Belarc gives you a link to each update if you can't find them at Windows Update (via Internet Explorer - not Firefox).

No I have not tried it. I do not know the updates I am missing, only the approximate dates they were installed.

Windows site says there are no priority updates available.

Belarc Advisor will check for (and provide a list) of any missing security (high priority) updates along with a download link for each update.

In addition, programs like Secunia PSI can help to verify if you are missing any security updates, too.

Thanks for the Belarc tip. curious though as to what would cause me to lose just the last two batches of updates?

That probably had a lot to do with it... The newer updates could have been updating the ones you lost in the restore.... Just a guess but it sure sounds good;)

Could you explain your logic a little more. I don't understand how all those High-priority updates on 10-18-13 and 10-19-13 could be lost only restoring back to 10-27-13.

Did Belarc locate any missing updates?

I have not DL Belarc yet. I have never used it and don't understand exactly what I would be doing. I don't want to mess it up any more than it already is.

Let me ask you this. once the updates are installed, the update installer no longer checks for them, say if you delete a high priority update, will the updater detect the update is missing, and try to DL that priority update again.

It will be interesting to see what DL when the next updates come out.

Boy did I really screw up my own thread. I think you can figure out what goes where. I tried to delete my replies and put them where I wanted them, but could not see how..

Belarc Advisor is a small tool that should not give you any problems. I wouldn't hesitate to install it if I were in your shoes. I mean, you're going to need something to help verify your installed updates. After you install Belarc, click on the icon and let the program update itself and scan your machine. Afterwards, a browser window will open up with the results of the security scan.

Yes, if you remove an update then Windows Update will attempt to download it again - or, if you visit Windows Update, the scanner tool will discover a missing update and re-offer it to you.

I switched browser to IE downloaded Belarc adviser, ran it and all it showed were four missing 4 updates, two were for adobe, two (quick time-itunes) for apple

I am missing 20 high priority updates. I of course went to MS update home and it read "High-priority updates

No high-priority updates for Windows XP are available "

Need more ideas on how to get the last two groups of high priority critical updates that were issued on 10-18-13 and 10-19-13

    Thanks

You said you went to MS update home...are these missing updates for Microsoft Office?

Any missing updates shown in Belarc Advisor can be downloaded one at a time by clicking on the provided link (beside the missing update).

You should be good to go then.

If Windows / Microsoft Update and Belarc Advisor is saying all is well then your machine is up to date.

This may sound like a dumb question, but do you still have .NET Framework installed on your machine?

Download File Hippo and see if it runs OK. If it doesn't, your copy of .NET is either missing or corrupted.

For what it's worth, this version of File Hippo is a stand alone application - meaning that no installation is needed.

File Hippo is working fine, I've has it for some time now.
I don't really want to delete sp3 and start over. Can't figure out why just the last two HP updates are missing...
