Hi All, ................ Using FF 23.01 and TB 23.0. My problem started after doing an image backup from the second of two hard drives to the first hard drive. The second, my backup drive, is usually disconnected.

The problem starts when I click on a link in an e-mail and results in two cursors, the normal arrow and a timer cursor. It is this latter cursor that blinks continuously and from its start prevents the normal computer operation in Thunderbird or opening a URL address, Google search and Shut Down in Firefox.

There is no indication of any programs running in Windows Task Manager except a blinking in the CPU column apparently in time with the blinking cursor. One other point to consider is that in trying to open an e-mail link I got a message: "This link needs to be opened with an application." I did install an add-on called ThunderBrowse (Firefox was not in the listing) to Thunderbird which didn't solve anything and I removed it.

Does anyone have any suggestions that can get this problem removed from my working hard drive?

You need to have a Web browser set as the default browser.

TonyT Thank you for the quick response and advice. Normally I use Firefox as my browser but as I said in the first Post FF is not in the list. How can I include it?

    1. Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs tab > uncheck Internet Explorer should check if it's the default browser.

    2. Open Firefox > Tools Menu > Options > General tab > Make Firefox default browser.

It should show up in the list now. If not, there should be an option "Other" and browse to firefox.exe in Program Files.

TonyT, .............. My machine is now using FF 25.0 and TB 24.1.0. These changes were due to installing updates. My TB links now open with FF as my default browser. It is the process of clicking a TB link which starts the annoying problem of the two cursors with the timer cursor blinking. FF appears to function normally if I stay away from TB but once started, the blinking continues in whatever program I have opened.

To me, it is apparent that the problem is caused by TB. On that basis I removed all references to TB from the computer, including the registry and then reinstalled the latest version. It did not help; the problem is still showing.

I revisited Windows Task Manager and monitored the Processes activity when the cursor was blinking. Every two or four seconds another Thunderbird.exe notation would appear in the list. so that there would be two TB notations for a short time. Normal memory listing might be in the 57 Meg range but with the appearance or the second TB one of the TBs would jump to above double (107,744K) the normal listing.

I would still welcome any helpful suggestions.

TonyT, .................I was able to eliminate the blinking (second) cursor by discarding the existing Profile and using a new one in which I inserted pertinent information manually. So the blinking cursor has been solved(?) but there still a TB problem which you have already contributed. Thank you for your helpful assistance.

    Tony ...

Using FF 25.0.1, it's on the Advanced tab. AFAIK, it's always been there.
