recently purchased a new Lenovo computer (g700) with a core i5 processor. It also has windows8. I note that my wireless connection will go to "LIMITED "a few times a day but goes back to normal when I turn the router on and off . I have turned the modem off and back on but the problem continues. Up to now I have new had a problem with the modem with my older computer Is there any action I should take.I have an Actiontec router that is about 4 years old .

Sounds like you may need a new router. You could try pressing the Reset button on it and setting it back to default and see if that helps.

I did reset .my router is only a few years old so I would need to be sure the new router had more power. Any ideas?

They only have so much power. New ones are N and backwards compatible. The signal strength can be boosted with different devices and some things that are home made.

N = 80211N, a wifi standard that utilizes different frequencies than earlier standards such as 80211B and 80211G. Backward compatible means that the device will work with network adapters that are B or G.

Verizon uses the Actiontech routers and they are not that robust and known to fail after a few years. In all honesty, those devices are decent but the Verizon firmware (operating system/control panel) is horrible.

If you have FIOS then you don't need a Verizon router, you can use any wifi router.

4 years is well passed the lifespan of an Actiontech router.
