I have a Lenovo M92Z All in one PC running 64 bit Windows 7, it's refusing to domain log on normally. Eventually a message pops up saying: An attempt was made to logon, but the network logon service was not started. I have logged on in Safe Mode but the darned thing boots up then hangs with just the mouse live. Logging on with a local Admin account is ok but despite the correct proxy settings there is no Internet or network access. I have been into Computer Manager / Services and noted that the netlogon is set to Automatic but was not started. attempts to start it fail.

Probably something obvious but I sure as heck can’t see what the issue is!
I have tried running a "˜repair’ and a restore. It won’t go to a restore point or repair. I'm pretty sure this is all related to the American Megatrends Mother Board and settings on it about network access but for the life of me I can’t fathom where the settings live. The MB is supervisor password protected. The Network port is lit ok but when I log on Local it's unable to ping etc., despite the proxy settings being ok.

I would reset the CMOS and get rid of the supervisor password, or talk to the person that set the password.

Thanks for your response @markp62 unfortunately that's not going to bring any improvement. I have the supervisor password (I set it in the first place) and the American Megatrends Mother Board is pretty much locked down anyhow. As far as I'm aware there isn't a reset option. Indeed this particular workstation had it's MB replaced because someone had previously locked the machine out by setting a bogus supervisor password (we are a school for 'challenging' boys). Therefore it's been essential to ensure the supervisor password has been set on all student workstations.
