I fixed the file association problem kind of by accident, because I’ve never had to go to this extent before. Go to control panel-folder options-file types-new. Then add a file extension even though the one is already listed. Then click advanced and a long list of file types will be shown. The WinDVD source is shown there. Once this has been completed, the WinDVD will show up in the right click menu of file types in Explorer. This should do the same thing as the right click menu in Explorer, but apparently in this case it wouldn’t.

This worked for WinDVD 8, and I’m assuming it will work for WinDVD 11, but I still cannot get it to reinstall after uninstalling it to try and solve the association problem in the first place. Corel has been slow in responding to my request for help. Fingers crossed. Apparently something happened in the uninstallation process that keeps the program from reinstalling.

I hate to even mention this, but if I were having your problems I would reformat C drive and reinstall XP. Your operating system is corrupted in my opinion.

How long has it been since you installed a fresh copy of XP on this machine?
