At power up the Microsoft Mouse pointer freezes and remains in this state for a minute or so, without further repeat freeze. Has anyone experienced this error and what steps where taken to rectify this error. Thank you.

    1. If the mouse is plugged into a USB hub, USB extension cable, or some sort of USB adapter try it without.

    2. Does the same problem occur in Safe mode?

      • If yes, try a different port or a different mouse altogether.

      • If no, must be something being loaded in normal mode.

I have tried the mouse USB in different Hub sockets. As said, only applies at power up, last a minute or so and error not repeat until next power up.

Thank you for the link address, accessing site proved that Mouse software could be corrupt or at fault. I downloaded a new version of software and installed same. Since, installing new software (mouse), I have made two cold starts of the computer and observe that mouse is functioning normally.
I now see that at times the Clock and Calendar icons (Gadgets) fail to display or can Gadgets (right click) be opened. Thank you all for help with the Mouse.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
Start up, mouse pointer still freezes, clears after 5 seconds.

What are you working with? Laptop or Desktop?
When Starting - the pointer (cursor) will show but won't be active until the OS loads fully - normal. 5 seconds would be pretty good. Neil.

retiredlearner is correct. I have a Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX set up for left handed use and it takes about 5 to 10 seconds to start working properly.

Today it is taking a little longer to work, apparently this appears to be normal. This appears in my case, started in the last few days. Thanks to all for assistance.

If it just started within the last few days, did you try using Windows' "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a previous state when your computer was functioning correctly? It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

Unfortunately, Windows 7 backup refuses to backup files, a fault present with me for some months and no remedy can be found. Now use a little known software called Paragon System 11, this software has no restore point prior to when error first surfaced.
