A member of our forum telephoned me to say he gets a message on start up saying that his monitor is out of range and suggests new settings, but he cannot get into 'display' because the computer closes down, ( or the monitor ).

How can he access 'display' to alter settings if he cannot get access to control panel ?
    Spanner.

Try Safe Mode and see what happens. I would do SM with Networking.

Right click on a blank space on the desktop and see if they can get to Properties.

Also agree with retiredlearner on needing more info.

    Problem sorted,
    Safe Mode
    Display Prop,
    Advanced
    Monitor tab
Monitor Type ( not the right one shown )
    Properties
    Driver Update.
He now has a perfect Screen resolution.
Reason for error message re 'Out of range' he had swapped monitors.
Thanks all. but you get what I get what I get on telephone, if I get more , you get more. Sometimes it takes our members, who are over 50 ? ++++, a little time to understand , so don't be in too much of a hurry to jump on the lack of info:. You should try my end.
The cure for this problem came from a previous post by me re: resolution on a small old monitor, that you guys advised me on,
    So thanks again.
    Spanner.

With respect it is up to you to get all the required information from your member before posting here - then a solution may be offered more quickly.

I agree Pete. To diagnose a "problem" you need to collate ALL available info/data. Neil.

Absolutely. However, if that "forum member" omitted telling you all the critical information (like it happened after he swapped monitors), then you need to smack him up side the head too!

If he did tell you, then two smacks for you! ;)

Thanks Mr Bill , Neil, and PeteC, our forum member did not think it mattered swapping Monitors , he thought you could swap like Television sets,
I printed the comments I received from you all and sent them as an attachment, he has promised to buy my coffee at our meetings for a month.
    Thanks all .

99% of the time, you can swap monitors. I work on different peoples PC's here at the house. The only thing that I want them to bring me is the tower. No cords, monitor, keyboard or mouse. Less things for me to keep up with and loose.
