PC World says that CC Cleaner is one of the best optimizers. Is anybody familiar with it or do they maybe have a better general cleaner for an XP PC?

I like Moo disk cleaner. It cleans out quite a bit.

Problem with CCleaner is that it automatically includes items from newly installed programs, even if you haven't told it to. I lost the "recent files" list after installing MS Office and had no clue why, until I realized that CCleaner had automatically checked an option to delete that list (I never would have made that choice) after I installed MS Office.

Moo of course lists all types of files it can clean, but has never yet assumed that a newly installed program needs to be "cleaned." I'll delete it the first day it does.

It cleans recycle bin, temp files, browser cache, as well as custom folders that you insert into the list.

Like all Cleaners, YOU the operator MUST uncheck items you DO NOT want cleaned or Deleted.
When installing CC Cleaner, you must also be alert and read what may be installed along with it. eg. Delta Browser/Delta Search etc.

I think Broni (Malware man) has at some stage used CC cleaner?
It does pay to read the instructions that are available before using Cleaners. Neil.

    Hi DPI Graphics.

Yes CCleaner is one of the best temporary file cleaners that is available. But before deleting any items make sure you understand what files you are removing first.

CCleaner also does include a registry cleaner component but unless you know what registry entries to remove I would not use the registry cleaner.

CCleaner is the best out there in my opinion for a general junk file remover. The included registry cleaner is the only one I trust for Windows 7 and XP.

However, there is a more powerful registry cleaner out there called Reg Seeker, but you have to be very selective about which entries to remove or things could go awry. I sometimes use it to remove obsolete start menu items in XP.

Some of the other file cleaners I use with XP is Disk Cleaner, Easy Cleaner (unnecessary files & cookies, but not the reg cleaner) , ATF cleaner, and TFC (temp file cleaner by Old Timer).

Been using it for a few years now and think it is great. Just make sure you read the entries when cleaning the registry.

Moo disk cleaner doesn't ever add anything to what you have previously asked it to clean up. That's the way it should be (IMO).

I used to use CCleaner all the time. If you clean Temp Files with it, then go to Disk Cleanup, you will note that there are many more there that have not been cleaned by CC. That is why I don't use it anymore.

I just tried that, and there was nothing there to remove.

I assume you're talking about Windows built-in file cleaner?

Yes. The one in Accessories/System tools. I haven't tried it a quite a while. Maybe they have improved on it. I will try it later if I don't go brain dead and see what is does.

It did it this time. I haven't used it like I said for quite sometime. Updated it and it took about 10 minutes to analyze and about 3 or 4 to clean it up. Disk Cleanup does more things than this does I believe. Will stick with Disk Cleanup as I don't really do this very often.

If you click Start\Run. Then type %temp% and click Ok. You might find more temp files.

Simply delete them - one may be in use and will not delete.
