Starting this thread at the suggestion of the moderator.

I have three machines running Windows 7 Home Premium. All three are having problems getting and running Microsoft Updates, and updating MSE. I have tried Microsoft's MrFixit's. I have called their 800 number for security problems, to no avail.

Does anyone have an idea as to how I can correct this problem, beyond what I have already done?

Are these all identical machines or do they have different configurations ?

What error message do you get while updating OS & MSE ?

    Do this:

    • Click Start, and in the Search programs and files box on the start menu, type CMD, then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter (this will get you an elevation prompt for an Administrator command prompt).
    • At the command prompt, type net stop wuauserv, then press Enter.
    • Next type cat /dev/null > %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log then press Enter (ignore the error that 'cat' isn't recognised... it still does what it is supposed to do).
    • Lastly type net start wuauserv, then press Enter.
    • Now repeat the action that normally leads to the Windows Update error.
    • Once completed, enter %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log in the Search programs and files box on the start menu and copy/paste the contents of the file in your next post.

    rsinfo-

Thanks for your interest. All three machines are Win 7 Home Premium. When MSE will not finish updating, there is a message, with a number. I do not currently know the message, when I next have the problem, I will bring it back here.

How about the logs Arie asked about ?

I asked about the hardware in post #2. Do all the machines have same hardware ?

Sorry, I do not remember being asked for logs.

The three machines are all different hardware. There is a Dell XPS 9000 desktop, a Dell Studio 17, and a Maingear Nomad laptop.
