I have an interesting problem with a netbook that I don't often use. There are two users. For one, neither Firefox nor Thunderbird will connect to the net yet Internet Explorer does. For the other user, everything connects.

    I've done the following:

Set up a new user. Firefox connects.
Reset computer to last October with backup drive.
Checked Windows Firewall (the only firewall).
    Checked the A/V program.

I know that I could delete the problem profile and reload everything but the problem is perplexing and I wonder if anyone has any ideas as to what caused it.

Hi hrsweet, Welcome to WindowsBBS. :)
A little more detail and info would help us to help you. Please take the time to fill in your System details. Go to > UserCP and expand and follow instructions. Don't forget to scroll to the bottom and SAVE before you exit.

Some FF & TB info would help eg. versions running on your PC/laptop/Netbook.
Are they set to Default between users? Neil.

Thanks, RetiredLearner. There's not a lot to say but I've filled in as much as I can. It's just a netbook running XP SP3 with an atom CPU.

You forgot to scroll to the bottom of the page and SAVE your entry!
And have you allowed your details to be shown when you Post?
This is in RED in the block above where you SAVE. Neil.

I went to user control panel to edit system specs. I then entered and saved the description of the netbook.

I found the permission to display section and turned it on.

Thanks, you've done well. :D Have you had a look in Mozilla Help?

There's a lot of useful info in both FF Help and TB help with regards to setting up accounts.
Are both users on the same email address?
It may have been an update that upset your connections.

Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can

    Neil.

I've set the FF connection to 'no proxy', disabled the windows firewall, tried disabling IPv6, tried disabling DNS Prefetching.

Problem resolved! I went to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information > Reset Firefox to its default state.
