My friend dropped off his latitude D530 series laptop to see if I could help him.
When trying to boot this laptop I get:

Hard-Disk #***5NH17KCH-595B, the system primary HDD, is protected by a password authentication
system. You cannot access data of this hard drive without the correct password.

I did get into the bios and it stated no HDD present but this may be due to the
needed password..The password is unavailable..his wife died along the PW..

    Anyone ???

Hi ramjet, I would assume you've tried Dell?
The only other suggestion would be the HDD manufacturer. Neil.

Does he need to access any data? If not, find out how to install Windows again (take it back to "factory installation "). Is it an installation by DVD? Probably not, it is likely through a hidden drive on the hard disk...is that drive also password protected?

Are there any details of what is asking for the password? They should tell you what you can do when you don't have the password (and want to get the computer working again??)

The password needed is a security policy enforced by the computer BIOS or it is some security software installed on the computer. Your choices are:
    1. Google the model laptop and try to locate solutions.
    2. Contact Dell.
    3. Take out the hard drive and connect it to another computer to recover data that is on it.
    4. If the password policy is set by software installed on the computer then there are options but we cannot and will not post them.
