Yes I have heard of it. Don't know many people that use it. I use the firewall built into Windows since XP and have not had any problems. 3 with XP, 2 with 7 and 1 with 8. I do like to stay behind a router also as they have a built in firewall in them. Whether they be wired or wireless.

I installed it because I wanted a bit more security for outbound traffic. I used to use Zone Alarm, but the program became so bloated that I removed it.

Is it possible for a PC software firewall to prevent the modem/router web page from showing up in your browser?

Yes! I have found this to be the case with ESET NOD32.

Go to the Options of your AV software and a web exclusion of http://192.168.x.x (and https://192.168.x.x) ... That is of course assuming your LAN IP range is 192.168

Once you have set and applied those exclusions, restart your browser (& clear cache, etc...) and then you should have more luck!!

Of course, in theory, if you're running an AV app and scan with malwarebytes from time to time your machine should be clean....and "Outbound" info would be the least of your worries.

Maybe not altogether for malicious apps, but for unscrupulous data miners /advertisers.

TinyWall doesn't replace Windows firewall - rather the program works in conjunction with Windows firewall to make it a tad more secure. I am a bit disappointed that I failed the firewall test at Shields Up however. All of my ports were in stealth mode except for the SMTP port, and I am sitting behind a hardware firewall, too.

I've never really addressed this issue before, but is it important to keep all ports in stealth mode, or does it matter at all?

I decided to uninstall Tinywall for now until some of the bugs can be worked out of it. The program tends to block / interfere with valid outbound traffic that was once previously allowed - and then vice-versa for some unknown reason.

I tried to contact the author, but I never heard from him.
