Resolved Internet Explorer 8 crashes and locks up PC

I don't know if this is a software or hardware issue but here goes. Awhile back I upgraded the memory on my PC to 2GB because it seems service pack 3 really boggs it down with it's original memory.

The other day we had a storm and the power went off for 10 seconds. Afterwards my main PC in my den wouldn't connect to the internet. Long story short, the power surge must have zapped the ethernet port on this PC and the PC in my garage and three of the five ports on my wireless router.

I was able to fix the ethernet ports on my PCs by installing some PCI ethernet cards. But I wonder if this power surge did more damage like to the CPU or memory.

For some reason ever since IE8 keeps crashing and locking up the computer. Sometimes to the extent I have to manually turn the computer off then back on.

I have ran Housecall and MalwareBytes and so far everything comes up clean. I am also running AVG.

Everytime I goto Ebay this popup window kept appearing. The site starts with the address: "http//35d.info ".

It's prompting me to download IE9 but it's not available for XP.

After running Malwarebytes again it still did not find anything but these popup windows are now gone but IE8 still crashes and locks up the computer up.

I've also ran defrag and CCleaner.

For some reason Google Chrome works perfectly fine and that is what I am using to write this post.

So is IE8 simply outdated and I need to use something else if I want to milk XP for all it's worth?

One more thing. While all of this was going on I hit Ctrl ALT DEL to pull up task manager there was this program: uagqecsvc.exe that was using ALOT of memory. The most out of all the programs. I stopped it but it still didn't all IE8 to work any better.

I tried installing IE8 again and it's still not any better. Now this popup window from http//35d.info is popping up again prompting me to upgrade to IE9 which is not available for XP!

IE8 seems to work fine on my other computers and even an old Thinkpad with less memory, a slower CPU service pack 1 and less programs installed (bare bones) so it's not loaded down with as much stuff as my other PC.

Any other ideas?

IE8 seems to be working perfect so far. I went to Ebay and it didn't even crash.

I disabled that "Forefront" ad-on which is the file I mentioned above and will give it a shot and see if that's the one that is causing IE8 to crash.

If not maybe I just need to disable them one by one until I find the culprit.
Or disable the ones that I don't recognize and see what happens. Or maybe all of them?

 

I'm going to call this issue resolved. I could not quite identify which add-on was causing the problem. I just disabled all the ad-ons I did not recogize then if something didn't work such as Adobe Flash player in Youtube I just reactivated it.

Can someone tell me how to call this thread resolved?
