Can someone tell me what type of icon represents the mail files in Netscape 7-newest version? I am running XP Home Edition and the folders which have a MSF file extension in my mail have a little windows square icon with one red and one blue dot in the icon and it looks very windowish and technal. The icon is a dark blue across the top part of it. Also the mail folders without an extension have the same square windows icon also. Both of them have that same icon which I don't remember having before. I am wondering if something has changed my mail icons etc.

If anyone could post a captured screenshot of what their mail folders look like so I can check mine against it, I would appreciate it. If not, an explanation of what the icon looks like if you are using XP would be much appreciated.

I don't want to change anything if they are supposed to have that icon but if its not right, then someone please tell me how to make the folders have the right icons and associations if need be. Thanx.

Last, Can NS 7 mail be exported into OE 6 ? OE will not import the NS 7 mail messages for me or I can't do it anyhow, so am wondering if NS has a provision for exporting mail messages to other mail programs?

Happy Holidays to all BBS people.

Win 98 here, if it matters.
My msf files have "Notepad" icon with one corner folded, and other mail folders (no extention) are squares with Windows logo in it.
As for transfer can't you just forward your Netscape e-mail to yourself, and pick it up with OE?

broni, thanks for your input, but sorry,it didn't help me with what I wanted to know.

Since you are running Win98 and I am running XP as my OS,then I expect the MSF mail file icons would be different. I was hoping that someone who is also using XP Home Edition could and would post here and tell me what the icons that represent their MSF files look like so I could compare mine with them.

And, No, It would NOT be practical to forward my email to my OE mail program as it would take a very long time to just sit and do that or even attempt that sort of thing. I have way to much mail to do it that way. But, thanks for your suggestions and thanks for trying to help me out.

Maybe someone else can offer some help to me on the MSF icons type and maybe a workaround for getting the NS7 mail into Outlook Express.

Would someone using XP please please post an answer if you use XP Home as your current OS,and tell me what kind of icon represents YOUR Netscape 7...MSF mail files. Thank you.

Moderator....Ramona.... Can you help with any of this?

Thanx again though and Merry Xmas.

    Hi Vanilla Ice,

My mail folders have the same icon as you describe, although I run Windows 98SE.

Whether or not you can move the Netscape Mail files into OE appears to be elusive. Microsoft hasn't updated the import for newer versions of Netscape. For that matter, Netscape hasn't updated their import for the newer versions of OE. Neither recognizes anything newer than version 4.0 of their competitor.

Netscape uses the Unix "*.MBoX" format for mail, which is supported by every mail client, with the singular exception of Outlook/Outlook Express.

For any decent mail client, you simply copy the mailbox folder from the Netscape/MAIL directory to the (client)MAIL directory.

I have done quite a few searches for information, both on Netscape NG's and Google, and have come up with very little. One user installed Eudora, moved Netscape mail to Eudora, and then to OE. Another user sent the Netscape Mail to his OE account, which must have taken days. He forwarded the mail at attachment, and it sounded quite complicated, as he then had to open the attachments, then drag the files into the desired folder...

Michael Santovec has a page which might interest you. I don't have OE on my system, so I couldn't experiment, but you can check it out:
    http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm
You might also want to check out the microsoft.public.internet.mail Newsgroup.

There is also a new thread on the Internet Explorer Forum on this Board. Is that yours? If so, you really should ask the Moderator to remove it, as there is no point in double posting. If it isn't yours, then disregard. ;)

I'm sorry we couldn't be more helpful, but as long as M$ continues to put obstacles in the way of Netscape users, it makes coordinating between the two browsers difficult to impossible.

Thanx much Ramona for all the info and for taking the time to help me out. Nope, that other post you referred to in IE forum is not mine. I only posted this one in your Netscape forum.

Those links should prove to be very helpful to me and I'm going to look at them all now. Again, thanx for your time,in doing the search to try and find some answers.

Uhhhh, Don't think Billy Boy Gates, likes being to compatible with anything Netscape, in fact I don't think he likes to have any compatability with any software that does not have MS carved into it or that he can't make a profit on.

    Sincerely,
    Vanilla Ice

    Hi Vanilla Ice,

I hope you will be able to get your Mail converted. I hate to see you use OE, but if you are faithful in keeping up with the Windows Critical/Security Updates, and with your Virus definition updates, you should be O.K.

If you are successful, I would really appreciate your posting back to this thread, and letting us know.

    Thanks,

    Ramona :D
