Bought a new digital camera ( Not another? says her indoors) very small badly written/interpretation operating manual, so downloaded full manual from internet, 124 pages later (A4), tried reducing font size could not read and diagrams difficult, found it was too cumbersome to cart around, downloaded manual to disk.
Unable to read from disk, can't find format to decipher, should I be reading this through PDF? or does it have another general/ international read format.
    the camera is a Nikon.

Hi Spanner, was the Download in PDF? Got a link to it?
I know what you mean - too small to read without a magnifying glass or too big a manual to tote around. Neil.

What is the exact camera model? There is no Nikon G1 - is it a J1 with interchangeable lenses ??

    Manual for that here

If the manual you downloaded is a pdf then you will need Adobe Reader or similar to open.

Answers to both and thanks. Camera is a Nikon coolpix 8700, I like it because it is small and has a swivel screen for me to turn it around and see myself. Not sure if it is PDF , I have Abode Reader.
When I load the downloaded operating manual disk I get 'Unconfirmed 4453 crdownload' also a suggestion to use the web service, when I try I get a lot of sites ? offering an answer to sort the problem, if I click on any of them I get ' Download' but with suggestions to download 'PC Cleaners' 'Registry Scans' etc.
All I want is the manual in English (US or UK) . What next?
    Thanks

Thanks Peter C, that did the job, still a big manual, but I can read it, having said that I will have to carry my laptop with me as printing it would bring me back to square one
Having my laptop with me when on a photo shoot, I would like to view the shot I am taking on the laptop, I could ask Nikon but WindowsBBS are friendlier, any ideas ? I have looked thru the manual but cannot see any suggestions on how to do this.
And thanks 'Retired Learner' for knowing the problem, I retired 22 years ago and got the watch to prove it, so why am I the Administrator to two over 50's computer forums ? wife's says I am nuts !!!!

Vague possibility that Nikon software would allow you to do this - as I recall Canon have/had software called Camera Window, but I think it unlikely.

Having taken the shot you could plug the SD card into the laptop to view larger - bit of a hassle though. If there is the facility to show the histogram of the image on the back of the camera that will indicate correctness of the exposure which is all you really need to know given that the autofocus has done it's job.
