Hi, My friend has a new Toshiba Satellite Pro L870 laptop, with Windows 7 Pro installed, we are just getting used to the new program,( being long time XP users) but our problem is that when you are working , typing etc , it seems to jump to the screensaver at random times by itself, as soon as you type or move the mouse it jumps back, I have set the screensaver to 3 mins .
It does not do it if you are watching a video or on GE or such.???
Anything else I can check or reset,
    Thanks Des

Disable the screen saver and see if the problem goes away.

Nobody would set a screen saver to 3min. Start with setting it to 15min.

Then again, I never ever used a screen saver in my life. When I'm not at the PC I want my screen to go into power saving, not showing pretty pictures to nobody (or passers by).

FYI, screensavers were a necessary helpful utility during the days of older CRT monitors. But they are completely unnecessary for LCD or LED screens, such as flat panel screens and laptops. They are just a novelty today.

I had the same problem on a replacement machine. I went into the setup utility, set all power options so that the computer never goes into standby or sleep. I did the same thing in Control Panel power options. I haven't used a screensaver in years so I never looked at that setting.

But THAT is what it was. The screensaver was set to "none ", so the screen would randomly go blank. I felt dumb when our tech support remotely looked and told me.

So... have you checked all three of those places?

    Phil

It's wise to use power option to shut off the monitor after X minutes though. I set my systems to 20 min.

My friend has advised me that it seems to be fixed , so I will mark this as Solved .
Thanks again to all those that helped.
