I have recently told Windows 7 to autohide the taskbar. I find that when a program that is open has something going on (such as a browser has loaded a page, or something like that), the icon will pulse in some way, or get a brighter color. This is ok, but unfortunately, it keeps teh taskbar from autohiding.

Is there a way I can get these pulsing/changing icons NOT to prevent the taksbar from autohiding?

Barring that, can I simply stop that pulsing color change?

EDIT: FWIW, I have changed the theme away from Aero, to Win7 Basic.

It is usually a browser, but has also been my PDF viewer.

I don't know about any notifications--I don't recall the last time I saw a notification in my system tray (and never in my taskbar).

Rt click Taskbar > Properties > try setting the Taskbar buttons to "Never combine ".

    Thanks for the suggestion, Tony.

Tried that feature, as well as "always combine," neither one seemed to do the job. I just decided to not autohide the taskbar after all.

You want me to mark it as "resolved," even though no solution was found?

Seems to me that you have found your solution, i.e. disabling autohide and in doing so resolving your issue.

There is not always a solution to disable behaviour which is built in to the OS - I think the task bar will only autohide when there is no activity on it. A pulsing icon is activity IMHO.

A pulsating icon in the taskbar is trying to alert you about a program or an application needing your attention. Usually a UAC permission or an important update. For example my taskbar just appeared alerting me that my battery is at 12% and I need to to plug in the AC Adapter to recharge my battery.

It certainly seems that this time no solution is available for what you want to do? As has been mentioned before the 'issue' is an actual Windows feature, designed to alert users to events such as program's running their course, UAC or system messages. It seems that you actually CAN'T turn 'the pulse' off.

I do understand the problem with marking the thread as 'Resolved' when it hasn't been though, Is the auto-hide feature really crucial to you?
