I'm new to Windows 7 and I keep getting messages from SUPERAntiSpyware telling me there are updates to be installed but, when I click to download them, I get another message that tells me I have to download them as administrator. Then, the message is gone, and I have no updates.

I thought, since I'm the only one using this computer that I am considered to be the administrator, as I was when I used Windows XP.

Can someone please tell me how to get around this problem?

    Thank you,

    bellisimo

    Hi retiredlearner,

It may well be. I don't remember the exact wording of the message but it's something like-
This download needs to be activated by an administrator.

As soon as I click on the link, it disappears.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    bellisimo

That would run cmd as administrator. To run SuperAntiSpyware as administrator, browse to "C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware" in Windows Explorer, then right-click "SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE" and select "Run as administrator ".

    Hi SpywareDr,

Thanks for the solution. It makes perfect sense. I'll wait now until the next time I see the update message and see if this solves the problem.

What has always happened each time I'd get the Administrator message is that after it disappeared, I would open SUPERAntiSpyware and click on updates. It always says 'Data base definitions are up to date.'

I'll let you know what happens.

In the meantime, thanks very much for your help.

I'm back with the same problem. I went to SUPERAntiSpyware in my C: drive Program Files and selected "Run as administrator but I'm still getting this message:

The update must be done from an account with Administrator privileges.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated. With Windows XP, I was always automatically the adminstrator, or so I thought.

    Thanks,

    bellisimo

    Click on
START (lower left hand side and bottom of your desktop)
    All Programs
Find SUPERAntispyware and right click on it
Right click on Run as Administrator.

You can also follow the same suggestions and "Pin to the task bar or Start Menu " whichever you want to do.

    kind regards,

Thank you all for your suggestions. I finally figured it out. I had to go into the control panel, select change user control settings, and then pull the slider all the way down to the bottom. That did the trick, and Windows 7 now recognizes me as Adminsistrator.

I appreciate all of your suggestions and credit them with helping me to find the answer.

Thanks again. I shall now mark this thread solved.

IMNSHO that is the worst thing you can do!

Any program you run will now run with Administrator privileges (since you are clearly running as Admin, not as a Standard user). This includes reading and making changes to protected system areas, your personal data, saved files, and anything else stored on the computer. Programs will also be able to communicate and transfer information to and from anything your computer connects with, including the Internet.
