I am trying to access the BIOS on a fairly new Gateway laptop (NV52L15u - Windows 8), but the system is asking me for a password. The owner has no such knowledge of a BIOS password outside of the Windows log-on password, which does not work on the BIOS.

    So far, I have tried...

    cmos
    bios
    admin
    administrator
    owner
    password
    gateway

I have also tried the S/N number to no avail.

Does anyone know of a default Gateway BIOS password? I have never heard of such a thing myself.

Most of the time BIOS password is not set. Its blank.

Somebody must have set the password & then forgotten all about it.

Resetting the password may be possible, but I don't know if we can discuss it here.

I assume one can reset the BIOS password by clearing the CMOS memory via jumpers, but I imagine they may be hard to get to on a laptop without tearing it apart.

Maybe Gateway service people can help you. Why don't you call them ?
