drag message to trash

When dragging a message to trash, the next message in line "opens ". I am trying to drag directly to trash without opening, and then dumping trash. I am assuming that when I drag a message to trash, it doesn't open at all. Is that correct? I just want to dump messages without opening them.
Netscape Messenger 4.7.

'Sorry to have bothered you. I found the solution. Here is a copy and paste from another site:

Solution Number One:

Click on the "grippy" that separates the header and message pane. Then, highlite the suspect email(s) and delete. Click the
"grippy" again to restore the message pane.


I tried it and it worked fine.

Another option:

Place mouse pointer on message.

Context/click (Right Click) msg.

Select action from drop/down menu
Delete, Move,copy etc.

Action takes place without opening mail.

Oops. Sorry captain. Right clicking opens the message.

 

I assume you are using a preview pane? If you get rid of the preview pane (which, I understand, is bad for worm stuff) you will be able to delete the stuff you don't want without opening it.

Anoth (better) option is to get Mailwasher You can preview messages without opening them and delete and/or bounce them before they get to you.
