I've never gotten this error when installing any version of Windows on a clean hard disk and I hope there is a solution as, otherwise, it's a bad board. This system originally came as a Dell factory-downgraded Windows XP installation (from Vista).

    Here's the system.

I've swapped the hard disk, memory, DVD drive, video card, power supply and even tried installing XP, Vista and 7, all resulting in the same 07B stop error. There are no add-in cards aside from the video.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the reply.

It seems to me that none of the STOP error troubleshooting is likely to apply so I went on to the F6 thing.

This board has no floppy support so how would one load a driver from floppy (via F6). Additionally, I see nothing on the above-referenced Dell page to indicate a special driver is needed.

Can you tell me how I can determine if this board needs a special driver?

My knowledge/experience in this area is very limited.

I'm sure Vista and 7 have SATA drivers and they (as mentioned above) failed with the same error. Also, I have successfully installed XP on innumerable systems with SATA hard disks, this being the first failure.

Thanks for the link; I'll take a look.

Check that the hard drive is recognized in the Bios. You may need to change from SATA mode to IDE, Legacy, ATA, or Compatibility Mode. See other suggestions at the link below.
