My Dell all in one printer, is giving me problems with the scanner portion ony.
when I bring 'dell all in one center" up from the desktop icon, up it will copy, print, receive faxes, but usually when I scan something it freezes up at the end of the scan, it does not finish. Then I have to do a hard shut down.

Even if I see the "end this program now and click on it, it will close, but everything else is freezes.

I want to try reinstalling it. I have the Drivers and utilities disk for it.

Is it best to uninstall from device manager, or go to the control panel and delete it from there.

Also, as for procedure, after the uninstall or delete, do I hook up the 926 then install the disk or, unhook 926 install disk then hook up the 926

This may be a hardware problem, but I thought this is the least I could try before getting a new one.

What has me stumped is, for it to copy, it has to scan, well it is actually copying as it is scanning, as opposed to when scanning a doc. it buffers then opens automatically in Photo Edit.

If you have another idea of what I can do, I will give it a try.

    Thanks Gary

Hi gary7, run your disc and open it to see if there are instructions provided on how to install.
If not, go to Dell site and see if there are instructions there on how to install.
Some manufacturers want the software installed before connecting the printer, others require printer to be set up, but no connection of the printer to PC until the software tells you. Neil.

I ran the drivers and utilities disc, just got a message that no other drivers were found.

I'll have to go to the site you posted and do some reading.
I want to uninstall the Dell 926 and start from scratch....

Thanks, but still have the same problem, scanner gets to 99% and then freezes.
I was trying to find a patch for this, but no luck.

Am I correct in thinking that when I want to copy a doc it scans the doc & prints it fine, thus, the scanning hardware should be ok?

Would seem that both scanning hardware & software are fine.

Well, when it gets done scanning, that's where it hangs, it never sends it to the folder I chose. Just shows the progression bar at 99% and hangs. I have to cancel scan. Click on the red X to close the program, then "end program now" comes up, I click on that to get back home.

It's like scanner is saying it is not done yet...It is not sending "scanned images to" files that I choose.

In event viewer it shows "hanging application dlcxaiox.exe version 4.22.0.8" when this happens.

I inferred from your post that all was fine with scanning and printing - clearly not.

dlcxaiox.exe is part of the printer driver.

Best I can suggest is a uninstall/reinstall of the printer & software in Safe Mode.

Ok Pete thanks. When I said it scans Ok, that was when I was making a copy of a doc. it would print as it scanned. so I guess the scan hardware is ok, it's when I do a scan for a doc and want to save it, or fax it is when it hangs up.

Thank you for the info on the dlcxaiox.exe hang...

I got this on Dells site, in a post similar to the one I made here. Does this sound like a solution that would work, or just guess work?

Follow the below steps to reinstall the printer drivers in prescribed manner.

Please disconnect the USB cable that runs from the printer to the computer and uninstall the printer driver by using uninstaller software. Here is a link to download one. http://bit.ly/VZKmEa

Install the software and uninstall the printer driver using the Advanced Uninstall option from the software. It is third party uninstaller software used to uninstall the drivers/programs from the computer.

The software prompts asking you to delete the Registry keys corresponding to the printer driver. Select all and delete them. Restart the computer to remove any traces of the printer software.

Perform the steps below and ensure that the services required for the printer to work are started.

Press the “Windows + R” to launch the run window.
Type “Services.msc” in the run window and hit the Enter key.

Right click each service mentioned below, click properties. Set the startup type as “Automatic” from the drop down menu and click “Start”. Please click “Apply” to save the changes.

The services to be enabled are:

    Human Interface Devices (HID).
    Printer Spooler.
    RPC (Remote Procedure Call).
RPC Locator (Remote Procedure Call Locator).
    Windows image acquisition (WIA).
    Windows Installer.

Insert the printer driver’s cd for AIO 926 printer and install the drivers in the computer.

NOTE: Please do not connect the printer using the USB cable to the computer prior to installing the drivers. Connect the printer using the USB cable when prompted. Try to scan and print the document.

For such a detailed set of instructions I would not think it to be guess work - long winded, yes, but if it works .... :)

The sequence is logical although one would not expect to have to go to that extent simply to install a printer - give it a go, you've nothing to lose.

Thank you Pete. I was leery of deleting Registry keys...
