When I get a Skype call, I hear two instances of Skype ringing. When I answer the call, the other instance keeps ringing. I am using Skype 6.5.0.158 on a Windows 8 desktop. It seems to have started after the latest MS Security update. If I quit Skype, the other instance will continue to ring and eventually quit. I've checked the Task Manager and Skype is not listed, after I quit Skype, but It continues to ring. If a call is comes in I hear the ring even if I haven't started Skype, but there is no window that pops up to answer the call. I have no other accounts running on this computer. I've disabled the Guest account.

I still haven't solved the problem, but I've done a work around. I first uninstalled Skype, but other people on my contact list still see me as online. I re-installed Skype and created a new account. If I'm called on the new account, it's no problem. I hate to delete the old account because I still have a monetary credit. If someone calls me on the old account, I have no way to answer, since the answer window does not pop up. I can still use the old account on my laptop and tablet. I don't know whether to make this problem as resolved or not.

I have duplicated my post on "The Skype Community" forum. I have yet to receive a solution. I searched for others who may have experienced the problem, but I haven't had any luck.

wjburl, it may not be showing as running in Task Manager, Applications window, but is it still showing in the Processes window. I ran into a problem when trying to upgrade some software, it kept telling me that IE was still running, yet it was not showing on the desktop, or Task manager Applications. But when i checked processes, there were 3 instances of it showing as running there. when i shut them down there that fixed the problem and the software installed. Not to sure if that helps at all, but may be worth checking

I have not done a system restore. The strange thing is that it still does it after an uninstall via the Control Panel. I do look at the processes is the Task Manager and Skype is not listed. I've also closed the browsers and it does the same thing.

I just heard Paul Thurrott on Windows Weekly complain about the same problem. Evidently, MS recently integrated Skype with Outlook.com. He didn't know of a way to disable the integration. If I have Skpye running on other PCs and a call comes in and I answer the call the other PCs quit ringing. The outlook.com does not quit.

I guess I'l reluctantly mark this as resolved, but it's not solved. Something should be done so that if Skype is answered with the Skype app, Outlook.com should be able to detect that and stop the ring. I notice that if I have Skype running on a desktop, laptop and tablet and a call is answered on one, the others stop ringing. Only Outlook.com is a problem. I no longer use Outlook.com and have my email forwarded to another server.
