I decided to update from Microsoft Office 2000 to Microsoft Office Professional 2007. I had 2000 on my Win XP operating system partition, but decided to install 2007 on my storage partition. All seemed to work fine, with both present, so I uninstalled 2000. Now, whenever I open any Office page, I have to wait for configuration. It says "Configuring Microsoft Office Professional 2007 ". Before I mess it up any further, I thought I'd run this by the experts, here. I'm not sure if I could just open my 2007 CD and do a repair or if I have to do a fresh install, and I'm not sure if it is OK to install it on a non-operating system partition. Please let me know what would work.

Hi Barry, MS Office 2007 should have under Tools > Diagnostic Repair. If you open > All Programs > MS Office > MS Office Tools > MS Diagnostics.
    See if that helps. Neil.

Thanks for the suggestion, Neil. It said it found and fixed one error with the setup, but the problem continues. I put in the CD and ran the repair function, but that hasn't fixed the problem, either. Any other suggestions?

Your mistake was removing Office 2000 after installing Office 2007.

This is still on a Windows XP machine right?

    Try this:

    • Close all Office programs
    • From the Start menu choose Run and paste in the following: reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1
    • Click OK, and see if this solved the problem

Arie, you're a real miracle worker. That fixed all but Microsoft Excel. I wasn't sure 2007 would work for me, so I waited till I discovered it worked before uninstalling 2000. Do you have one of these simple fixes for Excel, also? I am still using Win XP Home Edition SP3.

    Arie, from your Post:
[Your mistake was removing Office 2000 after installing Office 2007.]

I gather from that, that you should un-install MS Office before updating a newer version? Neil.

Neil, when you install a new suite, it asks if you want to replace the old one. I chose to keep it until I knew the new one would work. Arie is right in saying it is better to replace it than uninstall the old one later.

Hmm, AFAIK that fix should also work for Excel. Let me know if you still have the problem with Excel.

Arie, it still is a problem, but only with Excel. I've attached a screen shot, so you can see what it does. Would it work if I did the same thing but made a slight change to this?: reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

For grins - drill down to Program Files\Microsoft Office.... and find Excel.exe

Right click and select Run as Administrator

I couldn't find anything online that provided an answer. Let me know if you find something. By the way, when I click these messages they go away and I can use Excel. I can also cancel the configuration and directly use Excel. This doesn't seem to limit my use of the program; it just adds an extra step.

    Try this:

Locate the shortcut to Excel in the Start Menu/ All Programs, and while holding down the Shift Key, right-click on the Excel shortcut and select Run as administrator.

See if you still get the message about stdole32.tlb.

Sorry, Arie. The shift key didn't change anything. I can still only run as current user, and the messages continue to reappear. I'm not sure what they mean, as I can click on them and they disappear, allowing me to use Excel. It still wants to configure, if I don't click run as, but I can also stop that without seeing any functional change in Excel, not that I do much other than keep track of my expenditures on Excel.

Though Word works fine now, I continue to have the issue with Excel. It continually attempts to configure when I open it up. Does anyone have any idea what can be done about this. I don't have to wait for it to configure, as when I click the red X in the upper right, it opens properly, but it is an extra step that is unnecessary. The repair function on Microsoft Office CD doesn't fix the problem. Is there a way other than uninstalling the whole suite and reinstalling it?

What is the value of the registry string DPCFile from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{91120000-002E-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}?

For example, on my office 2007 it is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\ID_1002E.DPC

Check if that file actually exists.

    Arie,
My registry key actually says HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{91120000-0014-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} and the DPCFile says
E:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\ID_10014.DPC. I don't know if there is a difference between the 2E and 14 or the fact it is installed on a partition that isn't my operating system partition. Your other registry fix didn't change anything.
