I am trying to complete the Microsoft Outlook Start Up process.

Although my broadband is through Primus (which is based in the UK), I have an Outlook Hotmail email account.

Regarding the Outlook Start Up process, I've been asked my account type (which is POP), Incoming mail server (which, for Hotmail, is pop3.live.com) and my outgoing mail server (which, for Hotmail, is smtp.live.com).

I’ve entered these details, but when a test was done a dialogue box appeared, saying that Outlook could not connect to my incoming and outgoing email server and that I should contact my Server Administrator or my Internet Service Provider.

I did this 12 days ago, but the ISP has yet to come back to me. In this regard, I intend to make a complaint in early course.

From the information that I've given, is there any advice that you can offer to fix the problem?

    Double check the More Settings:

Make sure POP3 is selected under Account Type:.
Enter "pop3.live.com" (not including the quotation marks) under Incoming mail server:.
Type "smtp.live.com" under Outgoing mail server (SMTP):.
Enter your complete Windows Live Hotmail address ( "example@hotmail.com ", for example) under User Name:.
Type your Windows Live Hotmail password under Password:.
    Click More Settings....
Go to the Outgoing Server tab.
Make sure My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is checked.
Verify Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
    Go to the Advanced tab.
Make sure This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) is checked under Incoming server (POP3):.
Make sure SSL is selected for Use the following type of encrypted connection: under Outgoing server (SMTP):
Check that "995" appears under Incoming server (POP3:) and "25" under Outgoing server (SMTP):.

I managed to successfully complete the Outlook Start Up process.

Early on in the process I entered my name, password and email address, clicked a few boxes, and it installed. I didn't have to enter any other details.

I don't know how this happened. Anyway - result!

Thanks for taking the time to advise me.
