We are trying to implement an auto logoff solution for workstations that are idle after 15 minutes. These workstations running Windows 7. The domain controller is a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM..

Before I go any further, yes, I realize there is a risk for data loss with implementing an auto logoff solution and I still want to proceed with this.

I've been doing quite a bit of searching and I'm not finding a real solution as to how I can get this accomplished. Apparently the screensaver, winexit.scr only works in a Windows Server 2003 environment, but I'm just not finding anything that looks like it's going to work with group policy in Windows Server 2008.

This might be in the wrong thread, if so, feel free to move it..

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

    Thanks,
    Kenny

Nevermind.. Windows 7 can run concurrent sessions.. it's not like XP when a computer locked only that user or an admin could unlock it.. Therefore, an auto lock group policy will work just fine.

I know there is software out there that will do what you want. We have a dev server in which only 2 of us can be logged onto it at a time. Someone always forgets to log off. Is security your main concern? Where I work, approx 3 minutes of inactivity and our computers get locked and the user is forced to re-type their password. It's a security issue.
