Yes, I agree with you Spyware, but the only way I can attach documents or pictures now is to actually search the folder I want to attach from. This all worked fine before without having to go through all that. Have been doing it for years. Another funny thing is that if someone sends me a file and I want to save it to a specified folder, everything works great, I don't have to search for that individual folder, all my folders appear and it works like the attached process worked before. Also keep in mind again that if I just want to browse my folders and look at something, everything works as it should. It's just the **** attaching process with either email program that is now ******* up. Thank you for your input, it is much appreciated.

When I attach a file in Gmail, Windows Explorer starts in the folder I was in last. So, if you were able to find a picture in the Libraries folder once, that's where Windows Explorer will start the next time you go to attach a file.

To change it, start "Compose "(ing) a new email in Gmail, select "Attach a file ", browse to "c:\users\name\pictures ", select any small photo, let it upload, then click "Discard" to discard the email.

The next time you go to attach a file in Gmail, Windows Explorer should start in "c:\users\name\pictures ".

Yes, I realize that Spyware, I am familiar with all of that. I have had computers for over 20 years but not smart enough to solve this type of problem so I came to the experts. Even when I do as you mentioned, the same few folders come up and not the entire file of folders that came up for the past three years on my present computer. Why it only shows 11 picture folders instead of the entire collection of folders is beyond me. There is something wrong in the attachment process for either email provider that I use. Other than that, everything works great. I'm wondering if something is wrong with the default program used for attaching files if there is such a thing.

I agree, I only posted this so people would see what comes up when I click pictures to attach a photo. I believe only 11 folders and I have several. I am pretty sure I explained that in the text. Thank you very much for your patience with me.

    Hi guys and gals,

I'm to the point now where I'd like to reinstall the Windows 7 operating system on my computer thinking this will correct the problem. I have all my files backed up. Is there anything I should be wary of before I do this? Can I get in trouble? Thanks.

Not as long as you have everything backed up. I would format the HD when you get that far with Windows. Then get all the updates and an Anti Virus program and also Malware Bytes and Spyware Blaster. Then you should be good to go.

Thanks for your input. I just talked to my son in law and he doesn't think the problem lies in the operating system because the same folders would also appear if I just tried to view them and not attach them. He seems to think Internet Explorer may be the problem, especially since it happens with all three email providers. I'll have to play around with Explorer and see if there are any provisions that have to do with attachments.

OK, I tried something. I installed Firefox and with that browser, all my folders come up when I go to attach in an email. So, it's Internet Explorer that is the problem and I like using IE but now I don't know how to fix it. Is there a way to reinstall IE?

Thank you. I've thought of that avenue but I read that doing so I will lose any toolbar apps and links I presently have and I have quite a few. I'm wondering if there is a way to go into IE to correct the problem. I did what I could but I didn't see anything that had to do with attachments. I also thought about installing IE10 but I don't know if it will save or transfer my present toolbars, links, and apps.

One way to do it would be to do a backup, install IE10 and test. If it hasn't resolved the problem, or it has but you don't like the other changes, you can restore your backup.

Well I found out the cause, it is IE9 I was using, why I don't know. Tried IE10 thinking that would correct it but no luck. I now use Firefox for attaching photos or documents to my email. Not very convenient but it works. I also tried disabling all my add-ons thinking that would solve the problem but that didn't help any either. I just don't understand why all of a sudden IE9 does not display all my folders when I am attaching something. I won't mark this as solved yet since it really hasn't been. My computer geek nephew looked at it and he doesn't understand why its doing that either. The only thing it could be is a bug somewhere in IE9 that is not allowing me to view all my folders when attaching to an email.

Thanks, its a solution but not quite where I wanted to be. Didn't want to use three email servers to conduct my in home business. At least its functional and makes my life much easier now.
